I see you always posting this awesome sauce.

Is there a schematic for double cabs? God forbid I should actually ever have to use it.

this is VERY debatable pending further info...

a pre-purchase inspection type of thing was likely not done i am thinking
but do not throw that crap at the OP plz

The best money you can spend on a used vehicle is a PRE-purchase inspection.

The worst money you can spend on a used vehicle is a POST-purchase inspection.

Even to add to this, the best TIME you can spend before a purchase is finding a forum of enthusiasts that share all the ins and outs, and spend a few hours reading, that way you know what you CAN be getting into long term as well.
But before internets and forums were around, regular old DIYer guys were SOL without access to that info.
The internets truly changed the lives of the DIY group and those that wanted to be DIY finally had some help to learn:cool:

Did you NOT see the pic the OP posted? Obviously I'm being facetious about seeing it from a mile away. But that us a HUGE hole, there is no debating that. What planet do you live on that it needs "further info"?

And what "crap" am I throwing at the OP?

Yes. IIRC there is a website you can enter your VIN, but you can also just call a dealer and ask them to look it up (with VIN).

OP his oral statement probably has no legal value even with your wife witnessing. I’d think a statement about the frame replacement would need to be in the bill of sale to matter at all, and even then as others have said you’d have to deal with expensive litigation.

If you can get your money back minus the upgrades you should breathe a sigh of relief. You can’t downgrade back to whatever was installed previously?

i read this truck is a 5 lug which is most likely very low to the ground (not much for clearance) and not quite so visible as a 6lug may or may not be without a great effort of getting under it in a parking lot or driveway to take a look, i would personally have a seriously hard time getting back up off the ground in that situation
and pending further info from OP, try walking in other peoples shoes
some folks out there today still take other peoples 'word as bond' and trust them upfront, no questions asked
OP asked the question of the condition and it was answered from the seller is how i read it anyways

Yea, certainly a lesson learned on trusting people. The upgrades are shocks all around, brakes all around and new calipers. Also, accessories to replace things like hood latch, tailgate latch, etc. I don't suspect he will be interested in taking it back but we'll see.

I live in Ohio. I spent months looking for a decent Tacoma and walked away from everything that I saw. The frames were all toast. I learned real quick to look in the bed first because if the spare was in the bed the frame was rotted out. It saved me having to look underneath. Even the replacement frames rot too.
I gave up and bought a new truck in 2017 thinking Toyota had this figured out by now.
Guess not because they are spraying the new trucks trying to stop the rust and I have seen a 2016 with the frame rotted. The guy was driving it on the beaches.
How much are you paying for your Tacoma and they are still doing this? I love my truck but I wont waste my money buying another one.

Do you have any more pictures? Specifically, between the rear cab mount and the point where the rear spring attaches to the frame. Also, the top shock mount bracket/area are usual problem points. Sometimes, in the front where the sway bar meets frame, you may get pretty bad conditions there also.

A lot of us have made significant frame repairs and could give better advice on what your up against if you decide to keep/repair.

... should go stand near the local dealer with the signs to get the word out of this issue, until they give some straight help and much-needed assistance to resolve
all i have been getting from them is BS this BS that, its truly sickening considering the business my family has given to them over 1/4 century

Yes and no. While it's nice to have the little quirks of specific vehicles that we have gleaned from the interwebs, it still just comes down to the pre-purchase inspection. And I'm not even really talking about taking it to a mechanic, although that's a bonus for sure.

Just basic stuff like pulling the oil and trans dipstick, looking at the frame for signs of damage or rust, and looking for oil leaks. A test drive to listen for rattles or feel any weirdness with the suspension or steering. Every vehicle needs a sold frame, tight bearings, and no metal shavings in the engine oil.

Also just having kind of a human intuition about the seller goes a long way, too. Is the seller being skeezy, and doesn't want you looking around too much? Like tthe old trick of parking it over a puddle. Do they seem to have a TON of information about the truck, except for "that one thing" you ask them about?

I get it, we all put blinders on when we finally find that "perfect" truck we've been looking for. Things like when the OP described the seller pointing him to a specific location to prove the frame had been replaced. That should be a warning sign.

Now the OP knows about that, and we're all better for learning about it.

    i dont see how U might have missed a hole that l a r g e ........

anxious ...........eager must have been overiding factors

as U mention how much U ' like & enjoy ' the vehicle

the recourse would be to get out from under a bad buy with the least amount of loss

not sure if what he ' said / lied ' about vs what U heard

will amount to much in legal recourse or make matters right

    good luck

Dude, if I can stick my head under a Honda civic or a Corolla, you can stick your head under a 5 lug. Bring a friend who can bend that way if you're not physically capable. This is why people park over puddles; because they know certain people won't bother to look if it's "hard".

Maybe it's because I've been brainwashed with this whole Tacoma frame rust thing, but I get on the ground and look at BRAND NEW vehicles that are still on the dealer lot, and I'm in CA where rust isn't really a big deal.

Yeah, and those people get taken advantage of. Do you give your bank account info to Nigerian princes, too?

Look, I empathize with the OP, I've gotten screwed too. We all have. But if all you take from a situation like this is that nothing was your fault and that we SHOULD be able to take people at their word, and how mean the other guy was, then you've wasted a perfectly good lesson, and are bound to repeat it.

Yeah, it's not just a toyota thing. Look at ANY vehicle in those same regions, and they are all rusty shit boxes.

Toyota seams to be the only one that has even given customers the time of day. I mean, they gave us 15 years to get it sorted out and get a new frame. To my knowledge, no other manufacturer has done that.
