The holes are pretty tiny and worst-case later on if you remove it for some reason, would be easy to plug and use touch up paint. But yeah, I can't really think of any other option. You could magnet to the tailgate but then no lights. Or zip tie it to the main tube, but still no lights.

Yeah I’m going to try and rig something up for short term and go from there.

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
I used something like this back in the day and spliced it into the factory license plate light wiring. Do you hare the plate installed somewhere or using a hitch plate mount?

I used something like this on my bike and it worked great just 3m tape it to the plate and the wires run off to the side so you can tuck them away behind the plate or something.

I found a few threads that talked about it being feasible, but none of them had great photos/video, but this guys youtube video was the one I followed to do it ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baOHaIaxv1I&t=200s )... Hardest part was stripping the RCA wire and finding the right connector to splice into the factory harness, I just kind of pushed the wires in there and taped them up well... I was honestly shocked at how easy and effective this mod was... And the backup camera looks so much better on a big screen! Just wish the factory tailgate camera could be tilted up a little bit so I could see more...

Sure... BTW I Love ProClip USA and think they make the best mounts by far. This is the Tacoma Console Mount (https://www.proclipusa.com/product/834163-proclip-console-mount ), which pairs very well with any of the ProClip tilt/swivel adjustable phone mounts... I just ordered the one with the integrated plug so that I can just get in and drop my phone into the cradle and immediately have Carplay connectivity . Here is the one I bought which should be here soon: https://www.proclipusa.com/product/...r-small-to-medium-cases-with-cable-attachment

Nothing too exciting, just cosmetic changes
debadged the tailgate, if you look close there are still some spots w/ adhesive. I will go back w/ some rubbing compound.
tried my hand at wrapping the cupholder, probably gonna re-do it, the cupholder openings didn't come out so well.
finally installed a mesh grille i had laying around, derped the surround at first, wasn't too thrilled w/ it. Re-did with "color match" paint.
looks alright, better than the derp job

This is really cool! Does the cable plug into the back of the head unit?

I'm just using an Apple lighting cord, as that is what the mount requires, but I have it plugged into a USB extension cable that goes to back of head unit, which came with the head unit, routed through center console. Sony head unit instructions say that Apple Carplay requires all OEM cords and no aftermarket which is also a reason I am using the original lighting cord
