SAW 2.0s vs OME Coils vs Toytec vs Skyjacker Platinums

Hey guys, so I'm looking at doing a coilover upgrade in the front of my truck, and am trying to decide between the following options:

1. OME coils/shocks
2. Sway-a-way 2.0 coilovers
3. Toytecs w/5100 coilovers
4. Skyjacker Platinum Coilovers

I'm looking for the one out of these that is going to be the most durable, give a good ride, and give about a 2.5 inch lift. I'm also wanted to order a pre-assembled set so I don't have to mess about with spring compressors and such, and just bolt the things on when I recieve them. I'm kinda leaning towards the Skyjacker Platinums, as they sell a pretty nice kit for under 1000 that includes rear add-a-leafs and shocks to complete the lift. I know some of these shocks say they can be rebuilt, but ideally I want the shocks to be strong enough to withstand a moderate amount of abuse without me ever having to rebuild them.

 

Skyjacker is junk compared to the others.


SAW makes a nice coilover, but you will have to rebuild them upon occasion


Toytecs coilover is a nice unit as well, based on the proven Bilstein shock and therefore are not rebuildable, but still adjustable.


OME makes a great setup, neither adjustable nor rebuildable, but soild, proven performace.

I think between OME, Toytec and SAW, you can't go wrong. You choices come down to what you want. You have a choice between, rebuildable adjustable, just adjustable and conventional shocks. They are all quality units and will serve you well.

 

Thanks for the info jdmcq. It appears the OME option is going to be the best for me. Can the OME front portion be assembled off the truck? In other words, could I order front OME coils/shocks, and take them to a local shop and have them pre-assembled so they'd be ready to go? Or do they not come with the top plates and all necessary to do that? Also, are new UCA's going to be pretty much a necessity with this?

I'm trying to be patient, and just get everything that needs to be purchased, so I can do this just ONE time. I figure if I have to wait a little longer and save a little more, then so be it.

 

The OME's will need some of your stock components. Wheelers Off Road will pre-assemble them for you for an extra $180, which is what I did for convenience.

As far as the UCAs go, some say that you will need tjem to keep your alignment in spec, but I know plenty of guys that don't have them and are fine.

Have you considered lift spindles? They will give you 4" on a PreRunner and with a AAL in the rear and new shocks are a great lift. You will not need UCAs as your stock geometry is retained. There's a lot of folks on here using them and love the results.

I did consider lift spindles, but, for one, they seemed pretty expensive, and the install also looked much harder than just swapping coil assemblies in. Its still an option, but almost every truck I see on this site with the spindles, the front is higher than the back, and I'm not quite sure how to get enough lift in the back to match the 4 inch front lift. Maybe the AAL you mentioned + 1 inch blocks? Right now I just have the TSB springs. Also, I believe with the new spindles, you MUST replace wheels because OEM won't work, which is gonna further add to the cost.

Yeah I think the pre-assembled OME kit from wheelers is gonna be the best option. I'm hoping to do this + 265/75/16 duratracs, and paint stock steelies black.

Thanks man! I did not know about the great price on the Billstein 5100's Downsouth has going. Now i'm considering going with just Billstein 2.5 front and Toytec TSB AAL....Think this would look good with 265/75/16's

 

I think that you will be in good shape with that.

 

Go SAW of that bunch - adjustability on the truck is a MASSIVE convenience allowing you to compensate for the addition of armor, spring settling, etc.

Being able to rebuild is a nice option as well.

 

Hmm. Would billsteins + OME coils be good, or are the OME coils best when used with the OME shocks? Also, wheelers is stating the OME 885 coils only give a 1.75 inch lift? I thought it was a 3 inch kit.

 

If you are going with the Bilsteins, you can just use your stock coils.

 

I see. So basically, between the OME kit vs Billstein with stock coils, the difference is the Billsteins give me about 2.5 inchs vs. 2.75 with the OME's?

 

SAW for performance! cant beat a set of coil overs for offroad performance!

 

2.75 intheory. Not sure what the actual will be.
