150k...Maintenance Tips?

it certainly boggles the mind from what i have recently encountered locally in a salvage lot and one 4sale on a used lot

definitely a confusing situation

 

I would definitely get a couple of cans of brake cleaner and blast your brakes real good, then replace the fluid. A good ol' fashioned bolt check, making sure everything you can see is at least tight, you should be ready to rock and roll

 

i am curious as a cat about this service special, has anybody had this done anywhere and have any details what's included?

damn those '11 prices when taco fuel was north of $3/gal lol, i just had the MT done at Toyota/Lexus shop for right close to $140, also found where the leak was coming from a shifter seat gasket something up high under there, but will have to wait until clutch is replaced and get that taken care of in one swift chop! as well as the rear main seal


... debating on whether i should just drain the radiator and refill or wait another 30k or so for scheduled TB/WP (its been over 30k since i had cooling system purged in last summers debacle)
the petcock seems simple enough to reach topside and then hose off the puddle made underneath and screw it back on.
just a gallon of pink stuff for the radiator fill?

 

Other than the typical oil change, filters (oil,air, fuel) I'm more in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" camp as my '96 is still going strong with 414,000 miles with very little maintenance or repairs.

And no, I would not take mine into the dealer to take advantage of a 15% discount, especially for maintenance work..................... God knows what a list they would come up with.

 

how about the Tacoma fan coupling 'clutch', mine started really 'acting up' as i tagged over 150k recently this summer, or at least i think this is what the culprit is??
bot a new one to start throwing parts at since no clue if its diagnosable and not something you REALLY want to fix after it totally breaks

 

They have an oil inside the clutch that leaks out over the course of like 20 years lol my was too, got the oil from Toyota and took apart my fan clutch then filled it up, solve my issue.

 

i will attempt to give that oil fill a shot on the old one coming out soon! so i have a 'backup' for the future

 

Please keep in mind I’m not an expert, just 17 year old that likes to fix my own stuff.

 

should a new fuel tank cap/seal be put on or will you know it needs it with a CEL?
i have not yet had any CELs but sure that one will pop up out of nowhere one of these days idk

gonna treat the old taco to its 1st set of new rear shocks next week @157k miles
