This would cause a significant jump in inflation. Everything will round up to the nearest dollar.
And, it is hard to imagine a good reason for the fed to do it right before the election that isn’t political.
If the mint shut down, all the banks have to do is not take change out of circulation to prevent a shortage. It is not going to wear out.

 

All banks have been allotted a certain amount and in most cases local bank branch orders have been cut in half (what is requested is cut). Biggest issue is to do with businesses requesting change and not having enough on hand to fill their individual requests. Before Covid several boxes of each denomination on hand but, now single boxes on hand with multiple businesses to try and fill. This causes the shortage for business and the fear of not being able to give exact change.

 

My comment of removal of 'them' was implied to the penny and nickle. Both dimes and quarters are actually profitable (in a way) to produce

 

So let’s look at this another way.
The company that makes casino chips is closed down. Why would the casino remove chips from the floor without new ones to replace them?

 

Don't move to Miami and commute like I used to. $25 a week in tolls is what I was racking up, I think it was $1300 last year including a few trips up to Orlando and back....

 

Good point, it's very easy to round to the nearest 10c.

When I was growing up in Australia, I think it was the late 80's when they removed the 1c and 2c coins out of circulation and everything rounds to the nearest 5c. It made no difference in life really, except then they added the $2 coin in addition to the existing $1 coin, so pockets were just as heavy. It's frustrating going back there and dealing with all the coins still.

Inventory has been tough, had a few container shipments really screwed up. Less ships are sailing around the world right now.

I avoid Miami like the plague. Last time I drove to Tampa to pick up 75 north. Even when we go to Disney I avoid the turnpike if at all possible.

About to have a set of dobinsons heavy leaf packs( their mid range packs) for sale. Then are the 111's i believe with a constant load rating of 600lbs. @Crikeymike those numbers right? Im upgrading to the extra heavies.
