Brush Guard Recommendations for 2009 Tacoma

Looking at how those attach, I don't see them doing much in a deer impact situation. Anyone with experience with that want to chime in?

I dont recall denying it, i apologize now if I happen to do so in a previous post. But this is for the Hilux, but I got it for my truck and love it. nothing but compliments from everyone who see it in person.

FYI, I rear ended someone a month ago damaged the other vehicle pretty bad with no damage to my truck except scruffing up my head lights... So assume what you want about something you have little knowledge about.

Call it ugly if you want PPHAM.... I dont really care. It's my truck not yours so run along now and call someone else's truck ugly, not all of us can drive around a 4x4 and keep it as pretty and clean as yours.

 

I can tell you from experience that a dress up "westin" style brush guard will do diddly squat against anything other than brush.

Maybe if deer are standing in your way and you need to nudge them like stubborn cows.

Insurance adjuster said, not only could he not cover it because it wasn't listed in my insurance (extra parts) but that they, in his experience, caused more damage then actually impacted as they take away the trucks natural crushiness.

I do have to say a brush guard did save my truck a lot of damage once.

A guy in a 4runner with a brush guard sailed into the back of me while I was stopped and it totally took out his truck but kept his truck from getting into the back of mine. The brush guard hit my bumper and damaged that, but his brush guard wrapped down on top of his truck like a giant staple. Didn't total it, but it was a tow away. All I needed was a new bumper.

If you're really worried. I was in a flat bed (tow vehicle) out south of fredricksburg, san antonio bound once and the driver hit a deer. HE had hit dozens in his life and had a big ol 1/4"x2" bar stock "brush guard" and steel bumper (bars were thin side forward) That thing took it and survived, though not without slight damage.

Chrome tubes attached to the bottom of your truck just don't do it.
I would recommend something like ARB bull bars and bumper. Something welded.

 

They were thinking that they hit a lot more stuff than we do.

Hilux isn't the same vehicle since 2005. I doubt something like that would fit anyway.

that would be really cool thanks. the wife is going to get me one for christmas but the only place i have found one was alibaba or some shit and no where to just out right buy it and have it shipped. also instead of having that tiny little skid plate looking thing like on yours they have these little chrome bars on them instead. thats the one i keep finding but they say its for the vigo not the hilux.

 

It is very doubtful that you have any idea what you are talking about. The valence would have smashed to bits hitting a mailbox without the guard. My bumper cover shattered when it bumped a snowbank pulling out of the driveway. If you hit a mailbox with a brush guard like the one described, and it had enough force to bend the guard and damage the bumper cover you would have completely destroyed the flimsy Toyota bumper cover. I should also support my statement with the fact that I come from a line a professionals who own and operate a recovery business and a body shop that constantly repairs collision.
The main negative of having a guard this low under the bumper would be lowered ground clearance.

 

I saw the guard that dgalleon has and decided I had to have one. It turns out it's a Hilux bumper guard and can be exported out of Thailand for $310. I found a place that specializes in this and I think I'm going to pull the trigger on one very soon. The email they sent me gives me confidence they are reputable and export frequently. I tried getting in touch with dgalleon without success a couple times to find out what, other than longer bolts, it will take to fit the Tacoma, but it sounds like the Hilux and Tacoma have the same mounting locations. I did want to say, a lot of people asked dgalleon for some info on this guard and if there's a US contact for the part, we'd all like to know...
