Hello all - I was up in a fairly remote part of central Nevada over the weekend (Monitor Valley) and wound up with 3 flats in one day.
    Some background:
--The truck is a DCLB 2018 TRD OffRoad
--Running the stock 265/70/R16 Goodyear Wranglers w/Kevlar
    --~35,300 mi
--Had them rotated/balanced on Thursday. Flats occurred on Saturday.

Most of my driving is highway to get to graded gravel roads (like haul roads for mines) and rocky 4WD roads. It's not a daily driver.

Obviously I'm not going back to the current tire - I was trying to be cheap and get as much out of the stock tires as possible. I knew the tread was wearing (down to 3/32) but figured they had one more trip on pavement and good gravel roads. I sure learned my lesson - all three had punctures from sharp rocks on those gravel roads. Thank goodness for full size spare (in good condition) and a patch kit.

Most important factors to me are: performance and MPG (I know I'll take a hit going with a more aggressive tire).

Looking at KM3s in the same size, maybe sizing up to 17s and going with a KO2.

    Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Been super happy with Falken Wildpeaks on my truck, nice tire for the money.

Seeing as you're in NV and going offroad bare minimum C rated. Probably wouldn't hurt to just commit and go E rated.

I'd also ask people local to you in a similar environment. Some people love one product and others hate it based solely on what they encounter often.

Personally I was between Yokohoma Geopanders, cooper st maxx, duratracs. I went with C load 265 75 16 and love em.

can't go wrong with 265/75/16 e-rated KO2s & then you're not spending extra money on wheels

If you're going to offroad in rocky desert terrain you should go with E rated tires. In 4 years of wheeling on the same kind of terrain, I've only ever gotten a flat once with E rated. Seen plenty of flats happen to others and it's almost always because it was a LT/P rated tire or because the person aired down too low.

The nice thing about E rated too is you can air down lower and worry less about blowing a bead or blowing out a sidewall because of the construction. The big trade off is how stiff they are on the street and they are considerably heavier so MPG takes a hit.

C or D rated is a fair compromise but for sharp rocky desert terrain I would go with E personally.

Always carry a full size spare and a decent air compressor too...no tire is immune to getting punctured under the right (wrong?) circumstances and being without a spare will put you up shit's creek

You want tires with 3 ply sidewalls, I run BFG TA/KO-2's 10 ply, the 6 ply KO/2's only have 2 ply sidewalls. Never had a flat and I run backcountry in Nevada twice a yr camping for a week at a time up to 60 miles offroad. We have seen flats many times with marginal tires in nevada its pretty common with the gold mining community up there, easy sidewall cuts by sharp rocks, sharp rock penetration of tread, etc. The big plus is these tires last yrs longer than B or C range tires. And are great for heavy towing as well.

Geez, don't know what to tell you...i had those goodyear adventure tires with kevlar on my tundra, and never had a flat in the 30k miles they were on. I just wished they got longer thread life.

Did you air down? Doing so helps to alleviate tire damage. BTW, most tires made today are not rated by plies because their construction is so much different.

Thats why I usually replace work truck tires when they are half to a third dead. Not many tires remain safe near the wear bars.

Yeah, I did - I wasn't going to be on terribly rough terrain, but did so just as a matter of course in an attempt to alleviate tire damage.

I have been super disappointed in the Goodyear adventures with Kevlar. Last summer I got another flat on a perfectly smooth, hard dried "poof dust" road with about 15K miles - probably found the one sharp rock in the whole valley at 35 mph. I've never had such terrible luck with tires as with these.

Thank you ALL for the helpful comments. I'm going with Class E KO2s. Crossing my fingers I don't go (more) deaf! :) Have fun out there, y'all.

Yeah, I know. Tradeoffs are part of this decision matrix. When I ran the math on the type of driving, it made sense in my mind anyhow. It's not a daily driver, so that helps. If it becomes that...well, I'll be revising this. Or maybe I'll be posting a used set of KO2s at some point... :)
