Is a manual Tacoma really “sought after”, rare or more valuable?

I dont think that is necessarily true, they improved the current 6 speed over the last one and there is an article floating around for the next platform and it mentions something about new lighter weight MT.

I wonder if the new Bronco 7 speed manual will influence Toyota to keep MT here and even improve it.

Nissan has dropped manuals in the Frontier. I don't think you can buy a new Ranger with a manual. You can still get a manual on a Gladiator though.

If I was facing the kind of financial hardship that all car companies are facing, including Toyota, I would put zero resources into a manual Tacoma. I don't think anybody is going to drop the Tacoma from consideration in a fit of pique because there's no manual, and go buy a Gladiator (ew).

I agree with the feel of relief. When thinking about long bed or short bed, the decision was made when I realized MT only came as long bed.

I would have absolutely considered the Gladiator over a Tacoma with no manual. I would have hated the reliability, but I would have enjoyed some other aspects that the Tacoma doesn't offer.

No manual is why I never seriously considered the Colorado or Ranger. There are dozens of us.

I have always found that those who favor MT are a bit more savvy, and aren't just looking for a good deal, they want a great deal.

I drove an MT 2.7 4 banger first gen for 15 years. When a 3rd gen MT was available at a good price I jumped on it. I hope Toyota continues to make them. The MT pairs well with the 4 banger and is a blast with the v6. Its people like me that keep the demand up... but it appears we are disappearing. I probably won’t have an issue selling my first gen if I decided get rid of it.

Ford is bringing out a brand new 7 Speed Manual for the new Bronco which shares the next Generation Ranger Platform, I suppose if it sells well they could slap it into the Ranger.

My buddy found a 2020 TRD OR MT at the dealership a couple months ago, but they wanted 45k OTD for it. I found that crazy since I got my 17 Pro MT for that much when it first came out...

He passed on it and a few days later it sold.

I was extremely pumped about the 7MT and then found out it (i) is tied only to the 4 cylinder, and (ii) the most attractive optional package--the Sasquatch Package--is only available with the automatic.

I genuinely don't know why you'd spend the resources to develop a manual in 2020 and then hamstring it by making sure it's not more broadly attractive.

Every dealer by me can't seemingly keep manuals on the lot.

Because they want to sell the 4cyl and/or make the attach rate so low they have an excuse to discontinue it.

I love manuals, but I can see the writing on the wall. That's why I bought now, and hopefully I can keep it for twenty years.

In my experience, the MTs are pretty rare. From what I was told, the only reason there was a 2020 MT sitting on the lot was because someone ordered it and backed out of the sale. I also have a dealership contact who told me that MTs are only available if you order it (with a deposit).

I started looking last October and it took quite an effort to find one I was happy with (about a month and a half) because every time I'd get ready to buy, the one I wanted would be gone or shipped off to another dealer for final sale.
