Is a manual Tacoma really “sought after”, rare or more valuable?

Just sold my 2017 TRD manual. Bought it back in 2017 with 4K miles. Sold it with 43k miles. The person I sold it to was strictly looking for the manual transmission. I ended up selling it for $1100 less than what I paid for it 3 years ago.

Sounds like you really got your money's worth out of that truck.

I'm one of those....if the Tacoma didn't come in stick, I wouldn't own it. It's a great truck and I'll recommend it to people even in the AT, but for me it wouldn't have been in the cards. My family are all Jeepers, so I did my fair share of cross-shopping and almost waited for the JL to come out. Cool vehicles, but I'm glad I pulled the trigger on the Tacoma. As long as Toyota keeps making them in stick, there will always be one in my garage.

I’d say so. Basically broke even with mods because some I removed and sold. With maintenance costs too, my guess it that it’d be closer to $1400 lost. Not bad at all.

Yup, it was 6MT or probably Jeep for me, although the Gladiator was still being marked up fairly significantly when I looked.

Same here. I would have considered a Gladiator but at the time there weren't incentives and were being marked up by dealers.

There are 30-40 mile stretches in the mountains where I can stay in the same gear, whereas an automatic would probably have shifted 50 times. Imagine which truck is going to last longer

Weirdly enough, there's now quite a few available by me with decent incentives and not a single new Taco in sight lol.

If things were reversed last October/November/December I likely would not be here having this conversation with you!

I agree they are rare but I think it depends on the dealership with regards to how many they get/have. When I bought my OR in early April the dealership where I bought it (Toyota of Orange, which is a high-volume dealer in my area) had 60 Taco’s in various trim levels. Of those 60 they had 5 MT’s, 3 of those were OR’s. I did not need to order my truck, just saw they had what I was looking for, we struck a deal and I went home with my new truck. A smaller dealership would likely have fewer MT’s.

Granted this was right at the start of COVID (which is why I bought my truck when I did). I just checked their website, they now have 20 Taco’s all autos. I think 5 of those are OR’s

    X2.

Love my MT in the mountain stretches. Combine that with the sport suspension, tons of fun.

Other than fear of rolling back or stalling in tricky terrain, I prefer it in all circumstances.

On an overnight extended test drive of an Automatic Tacoma I went up a hill that is a mile or so long, it literally shifted 50 times between 4th, 5th, and 6th. I drive right up that same hill in my truck in 6th gear no problem.

Yeah or that manual drivers wouldn't want DCLB either. The wild one is ACOR MT in Canada but no sport and America it is only access cab sport for the manual but no OR with the locker.

I know I personally didn't want a DCLB, but that's just me and my preferences.

Neither did I. It was more to show again how someone would have to make a choice on prioritizing the transmission over additional usable bed space.

I would have looved the DCLB with MT. I guess it doesnt make sense financially for toyota, since probably only 1-2% of taco buyers want that combo.

They already hold us to small 5% numbers already. Even if they made 1,000 out of the 245,000 they would sell for sure. Toyota does play ball a little. That new special edition corrolla coming out they are making like 125 of them with manual.

Wow, new special edition corola with MT? cool!

I drove the cvt corolla when my truck was getting warranty work done and man, that thing just had no soul. I love those fake shift points they did.

My family was a Nissan family until they started rolling out those horrendous CVTs. After the first wave of cars with those that was that. I would rather walk or bike to work than drive a CVT.

Haha! The first time i drove a cvt it was nissan rogue, ex's ride. I didnt know it had cvt at first and i thought something was wrong with the transmission ha. Just a weird rubbery feeling.
