He’s in a stock truck with no accessories. He gonna be sitting listening to the radio in the heat that much?

Not to mention modify the truck to up the voltage for the AGM battery. Don’t see someone buying a PRO to get rid of the suspension they paid a huge premium for either. Have we mentioned that heat kills batteries? Doesn’t matter what you’ve got under there. That hot ass rock in the sky is gonna get it and decrease its life in 100 degree heat. I also don’t see someone taking a $45-$50k stock truck out into serious off-roading.

You actually can adjust the charging voltage in the 3rd gen. I’ve done it.

For the money, Lead Acid gets my vote if you aren’t running any accessories. Check out the link in my signature.

It's my understanding the voltage is regulated via the ECU on the 3rd gens.. How did you alter the voltage?

You can adjust the charging voltage with VFtuner from OVTune.

I think I came across a Thread where people were sticking a diode or something into an Underhood fuse to change the voltage.

So to get your $300 battery charging right it will only cost $700 more?

That or a plug in charger when its parked. I don't run an AGM in my Taco (at the moment) but likely will when the stock battery dies. That is likely to be within the next few months or so. Batteries usually have a 2 year-ish lifespan here in the devil's ass hold.

I am in the market for an AGM for my Samurai though as the alternator is tiny and it needs to support a winch.

Yeah but your truck will also not use the garbage Toyota calibration.

Die Hard has a combination starting/deep cell AGM it's lasted 8 years and 2 different trucks so far (dodge dakota, toyota tacoma). Never heard of having to change the voltage till I joined Tacomaworld.

I think the vast majority of Tacoma owners would say it works just fine from the factory. Enthusiasts aren't spending their own money to make it work "right". They are spending their own money to make it work how they want it to work for their specific purposes.

Costco Interstate lead acid. $82 with a 42 month full replacement warranty at any Costco in the country. Hard to beat that especially if it's just for starting. My 80 series is setup with dual batteries. I run the 24F starting battery and a Marine grade deep cycle as the house battery, both Costco/Interstate/Johnson Controls.

I have a 2018 and my factory one crapped out last week. Ended up getting a Die Hard Platinum AGM From Advance Auto. They used to be Autocraft or something like that. Ended up being $160 and some change with core charge.
