I think value will outperform, but you might need some patience, I am thinking over a 20 year period. Tech might continue to crush it for a while still.

 

It’s definitely an industry to watch closely. Likely be a lot of different challenges and the need to diversify into other renewable options

 

I am banking on CVX, XOM, and the other big players adapting and becoming the renewable options. If they don't, they're done. I think they have the capital to do it though. Time will tell I guess but I'll stay long until the end.

 

I am so conflicted about tech. There needs to be a correction soon, but I can't foresee what would cause that. Once tech corrects, I think that will cause a panic for the rest of the market and there will be a nice drop because people will be watching the S&P500 drop significantly. Just not sure when that will happen.

 

That should be the plan. And I selfishly hope you are correct. I don’t want to have to decide how low xom will go before I walk away.

 

I'll ride that one to zero possibly. I keep single stocks at 4% or less of my portfolio (based on my contributions), so I can take a 4% hit if I believe in it. The mortgage REITs, I lost faith in them and took losses, but that was different.

 

It seems like the hits keep coming with XOM, but they are staying flat for the most part. I will be excited when they recover. I did read that they were laying off a bunch of their alternative fuel employees and there have been some oil spills...

 

The spills were the only place to put the oil for awhile, I wouldn’t worry about that

 

They are cyclical, so as long as you understand that going in, you'll be fine. If you buy when the share price is down, thus a high dividend yield, and repeat over the years, you can have a great investment. I think CVX and XOM are both safe with 25+ years of dividend increase for both of them.

 

^ Maybe energy companies are not considered cyclical by the traditional definition (just dug around a bit online), but they sure seem cyclical to me. Here is XOM:

XOM is currently my only only energy position and I was looking at adding CVX eventually. I think they may actually start doing better than XOM soon, if they haven't already.

There is a pattern, and I think you’re close to it. I don’t play it that way, I just make big purchases when the dividend yield is historically high, and hold if the share price goes up. I am of course counting on them to continue to make the pay outs.

 

What happened with $MXC today? No word on pump and dump. No news anywhere. Everyone seems as baffled as I am (only difference is it doesn't take much to baffle me). Haha

Well I threw some at EXK at 4.13 just before close. Lets see if it brings joy in the morning or not....

 

They are pumping a few dinky oil corps...SNDE had the same thing today..Avg vol is like 200,000 and vol today was 82M

I wish they would let me know before they do this..
