Anyone order from the states? How do you get a rough idea what duty would be?

Duty is sales tax on items that are not produced in the USA.

So if the item is like the skid plate I just purchased, a plastic item created in the USA. No duty.

If it was created outside the USA and is being resold to you, then you pay the HST (13%)

    :duh:

I think this is how it works.

You pay HST in any item made in the US. My bumpers all had HST getting it across the border at customs. What you don't pay is duty. Duties are for items made outside North America and they vary depending on the item you are importing.

I used to have tons to motorcycle parts shipped to a Port Huron mail box. I always declared everything and only ever had to pay sales tax, never duty.

Yes, all Honda parts from Japan. Even motorcycle tires from overseas, just tax.

Standard cheap engine cleaning undercoating gun from princess auto works great, about $40

Or if you want to make it a little easier getting in some of the nooks and crannies you can get one of these on Amazon for about $150

Higher pressure works better <60psi to get it to fog everything as you don't have to soak it (if it drips your just wasting it)

Areas that get direct/ heavy water spray (inside of wheel-wells, front of differential and axle) I used to also add fluid film, but I found that stuff washed off too easy, especially when you power wash out the big icebergs of brown ice out of your wheel-wells. So I switched to CorrosionX-HD .

ACF-50 can even be sprayed on your exhaust and engine. Just don't get it on your rotors or serpentine belt.

It really lubricates everything too, you'll probably notice your trucks suspension will be smoother when you are done too. Don't be afaid to spray electrical connectors etc, it's non-conductive and will displace water.

Tis a lottery most of the time, for my steering rack I paid tax when it arrived from US, for my shock relocation brackets I didn't paid tax or anything.

Lemme just jump in here with a story...pardon the old guy.

Back in 2000 we went to Grand Rapids area of MI to get a Gordon Setter. That's a dog. 10 weeks old, hell of a boy. Told the breeder, don't feed him after a morning feed. Sure enough they didn't listen...got to the Bluewater and as we're crossing the bridge the young lad starts puking up fresh kibble...well, somewhat fresh, the wife could expand on that more as she caught it in her hands. While still crossing the bridge we wrangled the pukage into a plastic shopping bag along with the paper towel to clean up.

    Fast forward 35 seconds...

Customs Agent: who, where, how long and what you declare...

Me: Canadian, Rockford MI, 4 hours...this setter we just picked up...and this bag of dog puke.

Customs Agent: How much did you pay for the dog?

Me: 400 dolla, puke was free.

Customs Agent: Pull over there pls...tax owed

Me: How much for the puke?

    Customs Agent: over there please.

    Me:...

I still have the receipt...20 yrs later

    TL;DR...bend over, it's coming. Dry.

Yeah it's always a lottery. When I crossed the border into Canada, I had declared bumper and smitty winch that was made in China. I should have paid duty on the winch but the officer only made me pay HST on the bumper and didn't even have the winch on paper.

It just does not survive direct water spray or soapy water that well.

I stopped using fluid film because it would power wash off too easy, bor seemed to last in my wheel wells (not much better than ACF-50 TBH) and really collected dirt, so I ended up being a black mess working on anything on the truck that had been sprayed with it, and it smells like sheep... Lol don't get it on your exhaust. :)

I noticed my rear shock housing started corrode even with FF on it and the heat from them seemed to "cook" it so it became all crusty.

CorrosionX-HD won't come off with the pressure washer and soap and does not stink as bad.
BUT if you get it on your hands you'll need to use Varsol/Gas/Brake Cleaner to get it off as it has cosmoline in it.

So it goes on high spray areas and ACF-50 everywhere else...

CorrosionX and FF do not creep as well as ACF-50 does, nor do they have an Anodic component in them to electrically prevent/neutralize galvanic action and rust.

ACF-50 is also high heat, so even it does burn off the exhaust eventually, it does not create that stink that FF does.

Works great on the engine and engine bay too (just don't spray it on the serpentine belt itself though as it is a excellent lubricant.
