those will fit 100%. They are an inch taller than stock and 1/2” narrower.

It’s at the mud flap/fender area where the problem is. Truck came without mud flaps, but measuring at all different angles of turning the wheel it looks like it will rub by about 1/4”.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
I enjoyed my skinnies, 255/85/16 KM2s. They cut thru everything. The tires fit the truck perfect.

I will say I would have preferred the Toyo MT over the BFG, as the Toyos had a larger contact patch which in my mind translates to stability. Got the BFGs new for $100 a tire from a buddy.

I went up to a 285/75/16. Whoa, I can tell a difference. Truck does fell more planted, but man I can feel drag these larger tires make.

I most likely will try out the Toyo or wait for a Falken MT. I haven’t looked to see if Yokohama Geolander makes one in that size.
My only real concern is that I put a GFC camper on, I am wondering if I need to keep a wider tire to counteract all the top weight added.

    Pic is of 255/85/16 KM2

Were the tires rubbing the UCA? My apologies in advance if you covered this in a former post.

@Discount Tire yes, on the front side of the UCA. 2017 SR on stock steel wheels, slight rub at stock height and lifted 2”.

Hi All, sorry if this question has already been answered in here (the 161 pages make it a little difficult to find everything), I currently have a set of 265/70R17 Coopers riding on FN FX Pro Rims (17x8, 0 offset) and have been debating the upgrade to skinny tires (255/80R17 Toyo ATIII's). Truck is a stock 2017 TRD OR and is likely going to stay that way for a little while, do you think I could squeeze the 255/80R17's in? or stick with the 265/70R17 and play it safe? I like the idea of the bigger tire but don't want to have clearance problems or hurt the towing ability of the truck.

    Thanks

I think it will work, you will have to remove mud flaps most likely. Towing is affected. On my truck it made a drastic difference in the ability to hold torque converter lock in 4th.

They should fit fine. Mine still rub on the mud flaps ever so slightly, but nothing worth worrying about. I needed spacers to clear the UCA's on my stock SR steel wheels (16x7 +30), but 17x8 offset wheels should be fine.

They definitely affect towing performance on any sort of uphill. We have a relatively heavy pop-up camper, around 4000 pounds, and any significant grade requires downshifting to third and often second to maintain highway speeds of 55mph+. I'm planning on regearing, or going to smaller tires, or both when these wear out.

Gotcha, my boat is about the same at ~3800lbs and I am used to having to shift to 2ed to go up hills. Was hoping to avoid regearing if possible but it sounds like that is one of the better mods for those of us who tow. I think I will give the tires a shot and hope for the best.

@skierd what gears are you planning to go to?

4.88’s. I’m getting 19mpg unloaded highway now with 33’s and a 2” lift, and that’s acceptable to me.

The truck rarely gets in to 6th gear now (not towing obviously) unless I’m going downhill, and from the calculators 4.88’s put 6th gear in a similar rpm range as I’m getting now in 5th. Towing, 4th at 65mph moves from 2800rpm to 3200rpm. Or something like that.

Anyone ever ran the Vredestein tires? Michelin's boutique premium tire brand made in the Netherlands I think. I ran their Sessentas on my G8 after running through some Michelin Pilot Sport 2's. Better than the Michelins. Pumped water out the sides of the tires like Formula 1 rain tires, not under the car. Would think their truck tires would be top quality as well. They are big in the commercial lorrie/delivery truck tire market in Europe. Anyone yet?
