Winter Tires

I've heard good things about Perelli's (Scorpion?) if you can find them in your size. Also, Cooper makes the Zeon that looks like it'd be fairly aggressive. Just trying to give you some options, I've got the factory 17's.

 

I have 20s on my Yukon and am having a hard time finding tires that are rated well in the snow. If you want to go with an aggressive look you can always go with the Nitto's, all depends on the look you are going for.

 

I'm more looking for tires that are good on ice and snow. And with my X that means there won't be any off roading or any really crazy conditions. These are the brands that have been recommended to me:
Michelin X ice (expensive)
Blizzaks WS 60
Nokian H something 5s (studded so not right for me)
Continental ExtremeWinterContact (not in my size)

As for the Yukon I'm guessing that you can find Blizzaks in your radial but I'm not completely sure.

 

I have friends that live at Tahoe and they all swear by their Blizzaks, they won't run anything else. For the Yukon I don't want to run two sets of tires (already do on my tacoma and expedition) because of storage issue.

Alright thanks guys on the advice of the blizzaks. I have heard that certain models are better than others. I read an article that liked the WS 60 way better than the LM 70 etc. Can you give me some insight to which model works the best for our trucks? Thanks

 

Do you have any size restrictions? Interco makes a TRXUS that is really good in the snow but the smallest 20 is a 33".

 

I don't think I can run 33"s. I have to stick close to the stock sizing due to rub and how it is lowered over the stock tacos. Any suggestions on which sub model of the Blizzaks?

 

With your 5 lug, you can run as small as 15's, up to 18's for winter. With an X-Runner, you want winter confidence, but prolly want to keep some reasonable dry/wet handling when the roads are clear.

I would sugggest a 16" or 17" H (130 mph) rated "performance winter tire" (like Blizzak LM60) rather than a Q or R (around 100 mph) rated snow tire (like Blizzak WS 60 or 70). A performance winter tires gives up some snow/ice handling (still better than any all-season) but maintains much better handling for a performance vehicle.

blizacks kick ass

a buddy of mine bought a celica for a parts car ... sold the rims with blizacks to another friend who had an 04 corolla .... we went snowboarding and couldnt believe how good it did, it was snowing pretty good on the way back

 

Just had our first major dump last night here in Alberta on warm roads, frozen ice & 3" of snow this morning. The new Goodyear Ultra Grips that came new with my truck are amazing, great acceleration & braking. Wouldn't have been my first choice but I didn't spin or slide at all today, and that's on a 2wd, 15" 5 lugger. Would highly recommend them.
