Yeah, and winches tend to cause heat and expansion of said cells.... BUT, lead acid batteries are also handle large, quick discharges better than AGM batts.. AGM batts are for prolonged and not necessarily quick and large draws... So i've heard... lol

Do you know if the AMG 24f is lighter than the 27f?

24 series is smaller than 27 so it should be lighter.

Just bought a Duracell AGM for the 1st Gen. Read this post doing the research. Lots of interesting information... Fingers crossed as I didn't know about the higher voltage requirements for the AGM style of batteries.

I used to have great luck with Optima batteries, until a few years ago. I'd always bought the red top ones from AutoZone. The last one I bought lasted a year until it started warping/bubbling at the top. Only added accessories was a small powered subwoofer in my Jeep. AutoZone replaced it for free and I ended up selling the Jeep about 6 months after that. No more Optima for me.

My Tacoma has the Toyota battery in it, but it was replaced once by the previous owner when I read the service records. This truck is 4 years old and has always been in SoCal so it's telling to me that the battery got replaced before 30k miles and was less than 3 years old. Not sure what I'll get next but after reading this I may just stick with a good quality lead acid battery. I do off-road a little but it's more overlanding, not wheeling.

Imo, a deka lead cell is as good or better than others. I've had deka batteries in my toyota pickups for 10 years or more.

What are superior lead acid batteries that are easily available for the 3rd gen Taco?
I’ll soon be replacing the original battery in my 2017 OR Taco. No fridge or other constant load in issue. What’s my best choice that I can find at a local NAPA or Autozone or O’Reillys?

I have dual AGM batteries (auxiliary runs a fridge). Otherwise lead would be fine for regular use.

After reading about the AGM battery, sounds like the way to go. I will stay with the lead acid batteries that is recommended due to no aftermarket lights, other electrical uses. For myself.

The optima batteries when it came out, (1972)it was a revolutionary design, mount anywhere, upside down, popular for Jeep owners.
Years later, the owner want to go cheap in design and the designer part ways. Shortly after Optima batteries were being return by the pallets, lots of failures. They lost there reputation.
I almost brought a optima, till I read about failures.

Not sure if it is the same owners today. Or if they went back to the original designs. But I will never buy a optima ever! I work for a magazine distributor, many years ago. I would read every off road magazines we carried. I was thirsty for information. But my memory today is not so good.
I am just sharing what I can remember.
It seems optima may have got back on track today. But it’s reputation is gone for me.

I'm suffering from my battery venting and dealing with corrosion. Seems like I see somewhat of a surge when my blinkers are on or I come to a stop and my dash does a slight surge.

I believe there are only three car battery manufacturers. They produce all the brands out on the markets today. Each brand has there own requirements.

I always like Interstate battery’s. I think they still carry the 84 month battery . Years ago, my neighbor work for Interstate, and I purchase the 84 month battery from him. Costco sells the Interstate batteries, but 36 months?
So all my batteries are Costco iInterstates. Great pricing and exchange policy.

SAMs club or similar provides a good price for a 3 year battery. I see no reason to pay more for a chance at better than that. When I sense the first sluggish start on a cold day, I buy a replacement. 3-5 years has been my experience regardless of brand. I replaced OEM battery in Tacoma in year 4.

Hyper corrosion? Is this the corrosion we see around battery terminals? There seems to be many solutions.
I keep the brushes in my glove box. Those battery felt pads do a good job of preventing corrosion.

if excessive? Then you got a real problem with the battery.
