Is this the build where you are trying to tuck the cage as much as possible?

If it was a 2nd Gen with side curtain airbags...

 

I don't think you'd want them if you're strapped into a race seat and your head doesn't have as much room to move to the side - usually taking airbags out is part of the whole deal

arm restraints and a HANS, nothing left for the airbags to do like go off when you decide to do a little desert landscaping

Mine is cracking like that dude in CA that did the whole square tube deal (Navy guy can't remember the screen name). Now I've got the hood flutter going down the HWY. I'm going to relocate mine to under the bed. Mine also tore without any tire hitting the inner fender area just from the weak frame flexing and ripping stuff apart at the seams.

 

Yes, but so are helmets, which we don't wear day to day. I'd hate to brain myself on a roll cage going to lowes...

 

Yeah that’s the rub I guess - either always wearing full harnesses that keep you glued to your seat or figuring out how to not get injured from your cage.

 

Right, and airbags are a great answer to that problem. This is the first internal cage I've seen thats even close to tight enough to keep them.

Otherwise I'll go my original plan, and build an exo-cage. Not as strong, but I'm not building a race truck, but it's better than no cage, and keeps the airbags on the inside.

 

Never see guys with airbags and a cage really. I mean you could notch one in or mount one if you needed it.

 

Looks like they cut a lot of the inner structure out to tuck it up and in that channel. But IMO that's the way to go as you can regain some strength back by tying the body to the cage if you really want to. It also doesn't kill visibility.

 

Exactly, the structure of the cab is a lot less important once you have a cage. Especially if it's properly built.
