Yeah, we closed some trail stream crossings until a culvert was installed because of stuff like that- it was a big mess downstream after busy weekends and you could see and smell the diesel residue in the water. They weren’t major streams, so the stuff didn’t get diluted or washed away, but they were important native trout streams.

Exactly... it typically comes from the 'dirty' side (PCV) and gets routed towards the intake. I have an oil catch can hooked up on my GT350. Because of it's flat-plane crank V8, the redline is a lofty 8250 rpm, a catch can was essential... especially on the track. I've tested the can on the Taco and results were very marginal.... so it was removed.

Yeah it goes to the intake, but further downstream. There's a fresh air side, and a dirty side. The dirty (blow by) side is "pressurized". The fresh air side is under vacuum. If u didnt have The fresh air side you push oil passed your seals.

first thing we do & factory race teams do on race bikes is route crank case breather to the exhaust or a catch can. far from snake oil...

Great in direct injection engines. Taco's are dual direct and port. The port generally cleans what an only direct injection engine would otherwise not.
Some versions of OVTune alter the fuel ratios through port and direct so some versions which use much more of the direct and much less of the port would do fine without a catch can but will probably be just a little more long-lived with a catch can.

Also, I love how some people say, "Toyota engineers made it like that for a reason. Trust the engineers."
Then they go right out and buy an OVTune because OVTune makes a far superior tune to what TOYOTA ENGINEERS developed for the truck

You going to get some blow-by with 18 to 1 compression, but not bad. I loved my 2002 Ram 2500 Cummins. It gets great fuel mileage and is hands down the best vehicle I ever had for towing.
Only reason I'm driving my Tacoma is because my grandson got the Ram after he graduated high school. We raised him, he grew up with it, learned to drive in it and he was hoping that he would eventually get it down the road. I decided to downsize and wanted more space in the garage I totally surprised him when I took him down to the DMV and signed over the title to him.

Keep running them low. Makes my weekend IA gig great. Make sure you hide the bottle of Mystery Oil that you ran in your tank to get better compression for the Annual, If I don’t see I don’t know if you did it or not.

All engines are creating positive crankcase pressures.

If that's the case, then your the one driving a turd, as that's way too much blow by.

As a mechanic for over 40 years, I will state without any dought, that oil separators work.

If your going to sell your Tacoma in 5~7 years, don't waste your time adding a can. If your someone that drives your rig till the wheels fall off, then add one.

They do have long term positive effects. Cats will last forever if they see no blowby. They're also good for other components, like the MAF.

When I took off my throttle body to clean I looked inside my intake manifold and I am going to say after 165k I think it is worth while. My manifold was filled with oil that had puddled up and making a huge mess in there. For that reason alone I am installing one.

Real question though. Trust the universal one for $30 from Amazon or get a vehicle specific one for $200
