OME Dakar pack, whats your hub to fender measurement?

I'm sure this has been covered somewhere, if anyone knows of a thread please link me. I've searched quite a bit, but there are so many results for anything about OME or Dakar rear springs!

Anyways, I'm planning on picking up a pair of OME Dakar's, but I can't decide between the Medium duty (EL111R) and heavy duty (EL112R).

Those of you 3rd Gens with either of those packs and no additional weight (steel bumper, canopy, etc), could you get a hub to fender measurement for me? I'll owe you a beer

I'm Icon stage 4, currently with Icon progressive AAL in the back, with the factory overload spring left in place. I think the truck already sags a 1/4" or so in the back, but we just bought a new 3100# camp trailer, looking to alleviate some of that added sag when hauling. On the other hand, I drive gravel logging roads every weekend, want to avoid the stiffer leaf pack if possible. So if the medium duty gives me the height I'm looking for, I'll stick with it regardless of if the heavy duty will be better for hauling the trailer. The trailer is on the truck a handful of weekends a year, but I'm in the woods on bumpy roads every weekend...

Or, if you really want a good leaf pack go with the Icon RXT or Deaver.

The OME Dakars are a cheap leaf pack and don’t provide the flex the RXT or Deavers will

Funny you say that, I've heard the opposite (about the Icon RXT).
The Deavers look good, but they're significantly more expensive and seem to have options that are either too soft or too stiff for my needs.

Seems like most people disagree with you about Dakars, including Mary at Headstrong.

 

Biggest issue Ive had/heard with OME leaf packs is they squeak like a beast unless I pressure wash the retainers on the leaf packs.

 

Not a 3rd gen but here’s my HD dakars. These are the newest version and they ride great. Only weight is my bed rack and I’ll be adding a tent whenever it comes in. Zero squeaks and they flex pretty good.
with 285/75r16’s and 1.75” trimmed off my flares they measure right at 10.5” from the top of the tire to the fender.

 

Only squeaks i got was the anti friction pads, until I threw some grease in them after first 6 months. They were loaded with sand and crud.

 

DAKARS carry weight well, they flex plenty, overall awesome... I run heavy's with a shit ton of stuff bolted on my truck, so i cant help you here... but wanted to point out DAKARS are a great choice and arent as bad as Icon fan boys say they are lol

 

Mary knows her stuff for sure...and also sells products. I had the older gen Dakar CS047R HD which was great for carrying weight. They were great for what they were and I didn’t know any better because I hadn’t run anything else. I switched to the mediums and they went flat fast with barely anything in the bed but a box and mat. The Dakars did squeak like hell no matter what I did. The new versions may be better, but for me they didn’t last as long as I would have hoped.

Disclaimer: I’m not an Icon fanboy and would never buy any of their suspension except the leaf pack. Ive had the RXT in medium on for 4-6 mos now and it is very smooth, but did add a little height.

The ride quality is much better in the RXTs and the paint job seems to hold up better. One thing I did custom was add zercs to my shackles and add a Dobinsons lube bolt.

 

I hate my Dakar's and will be switching to ATS Suspension leaf springs

 

Rear driver before:21.6”
Rear driver after: 24”
Rear pass before:22”
Rear pass after:24.4”

Added the medium duty.

OR 4x4 no weight in the back

Plenty of talk about squeakin' and greasin' in the RXT thread as well.

 

Top of the axle tube to the bottom of the frame rail is an easier and more consistent number to grab for lift measurements. Stock is 8.25".

 

I'd have to look for my exact measurements, but I gained about 3" unloaded over stock on my truck (HD). I end up greasing them with lucas marine grease and a needle fitting maybe once or twice a year and have no other issues.
