    hey team,

2019 Tacoma with about 4,000 miles on her. Started up my truck after work today and oil pressure alert came up. Shut the truck down, waited a couple minutes, and started back up and light hasn’t been on since. Drove the store and back and no issues.

I did switch the truck very quickly into drive after starting up truck when the light came on, but it doesn’t seem like this would cause that.

    Anyone have this issue before?

Obvious question, but did you check your oil after? If you see that alert again, I would take it in and have the oil pressure checked. You could (hopefully) just have a bad sensor.

I would guess since you shifted so quickly you didn’t give the oil a chance to run through your engine and bring pressure up. Wait until you hear it idle normally, then shift after starting it up from when it was cold.

Sure did check the dipstick. Things look good under the hood, which makes me think i probably just jumped the and started up too fast. Got a little antsy post work haha.

Scared the shit out of me seeing light and feeling it go cold like that

keep an eye on the engine temp as well. I would be checking my dipstick and under my truck daily for a little while. did you get under it? everything look good with the drain plug and filter housing?

Everything is looking pretty solid underneath. I’ll keep an eye out for a bit to make sure, good call

Did you notice for sure that the truck was even still running? I'm wondering if you shifting into drive so fast just caused it to stall which would flip on the low oil pressure message without anything being wrong with the truck. I could see not noticing that the truck stalled in the panic of seeing low oil pressure.

It initially turned on and then in conjunction with the alert seemed to go limp and shut down.

Would stalling an automatic like that have any negative effects?

I don't think it would cause any issues. Definitely better than if it had actually been running with no oil pressure. Kind of weird that it did stall though, but in the future, I would just give it a couple of seconds after its running before throwing it in gear and you shouldn't have any more issues. At this point I would say there's nothing wrong with your truck - you just caught it at exactly the wrong time.

Excellent. Thanks for the tips everyone! Going to be keeping an eye out but if nothing is wrong I'll prob just wait until the 5k checkup to bring up to the dealership.

Check the timing cover and all of the above mentioned items.
If you have and all looks good, run with it. Better than going in to the, "sorry, we couldn't duplicate it the problem" from toyota.
Get video of the light on if it returns for proof the truck is acting wacky.

I am going to pick up my truck from Toyota and they just told me "sorry, we couldn't duplicate the problem"

What should I have them do?

    Not much you can do.
Accept delivery of your truck and wait until next time or don't and open a case with corporate.

I truly appreciate your response. I was thinking about calling Corporate now and seeing what they think. Do you have any idea on what department I could call? It's so sad because it only has 23k miles

Not a dumb question at all! My driveway is a very slight incline (Nothing super noticeable) I only brought it up because I've seen a couple people mention it haha.

What's interesting too is I brought it in for an oil change the next week and a couple days later on a really hot day my gf started up my truck and saw the "a/t fluid overheating" alert came on and then went away.
