Yes, I have a 2017, “leaned out”, 4 banger 5 spd MT, Access Cab. I average 21 mpg in winter, 23 in summer. On a summer highway only trip I get 26 mpg.

50K on the truck now and awhile back I put in the Redline MT fluid. It shifts like butter now, all notchiness is gone. Love it and it will continue to get better with age

Also it is a 5MT. I do deal with the occasional clutch pedal squeak. High humidity brought the clutch creaking noise back last week. I have greased/lubed it many times but it still returns. i did complain about the notchiness of shifting when truck was new on here also. especially 1st to 2nd.
it was a noticeable improvement moving forward. I think I switched the original oem fluid out somewhere around 25K miles ? dont remember exactly. The more you drive the truck too, the more you become one with it !!

I’ll miss the manual transmission, moving to a 4Runner TRD Off-road

MT-90 made a huge difference in smoothness when shifting for me. I did the ADM at 2500 ish miles, MT-90 @ 4k. The fluid was better than I expected. Still had some instances of it not wanting to go into first / R but much less. Nearing 7k now, and it seems fully broken in. I no longer have any issues with it not wanting to go into gear at all.

Man, if they made the 4runner with MT, I would have highly considered it. My dad has 2 and they are amazing. Having a truck bed is super convinient, at the expense of interior space though.

Yeah, will miss the bed but I mostly just used it for bikes, and have a North Shore rack that’s honestly better than a truck tailgate.

I averaged 3-4 MPGs better with my 2016 AT. It’s not the the old days when I could get better MPGs with a manual.

Hah, that’s wild! Believe me... I’m trying to boost it the 3-4 MPG, but just can’t seem to get it there. I miss the extra 60-80 miles/tank.

if you are only doing 55 mph highways, yeah the AT might be better. If you drove 65 MPH or faster, the MT definitely gets better fuel economy. My AT was terribly inconsistent. I had tanks of 13-14 and some that were 20+. My MT is usually around 20, city driving will knock it down to 18 or so.

also the tune helps if you have not done it.

I can see it being better if flat and going 55 mph. Your rpms are probably 200-300 less.

Otherwise in real world driving, AT and MT is pretty much the same, thanks to 4.30 rear end in MT.
