Front Brake Job (advice)

    Picked up my front brake rotors and pads today at Carquest (I work there so major discount). Will be doing the install hopefully tomorrow along with the oil change.

    Is there anything special I need to know about Tacoma brakes, any quirks etc? I am familiar with vehicles, been working on or around them for about 10 years now but never worked on a Tacoma. Just looking for some insight before I dig in and get surprised on a Sunday afternoon with no auto parts stores open!

    Just did mine. Easy job, but you have to BFH the rotors. They tend to rust to the hub.

    No need for the bfh....There are holes for jack bolts. Just find the bolt that fits and tighten them and the rotor comes right off..

    I hope the 2nd gens changed the design, because my first gen is a PITA. The 1st gens have 2 smooth pins that hold the pads in place and those pins are made of insta-rust metal, I had to heat them and let them soak overnight in PBblast to get them to slide out last time I did my brakes.

    Hitch and wiring, aux back-up light, rear strobe lights, radio and underseat sub.
    Make sure everything that is metal on metal contact is totally cleaned then coated with a thin coat of anti squeal coating. 3m makes a good one, works for the guide pins too.
    Don't reuse the guide pins if they corrode and/or seize, you get uneven wear or locked brakes. Clean all preservative off the new rotors and keep contaminents off the new friction material.
    +1 on the shims keeping the noise away. The pads vibrate when you brake, the shims help dampen it and so does the anti-squeal compound.
