Out of curiosity. How long did this take and how hard were your wheeling with it?

What do you mean you did it when you drilled the holes. What was your mounting set up like? What was the brand of the topper?

Found it, Snugtop. I am going to be drilling into my LEER this weekend to mount a rhino rack crossbar system and an RTT. I sure hope i don't suffer the same fate as you.

Thanks, do you know exactly what went wrong in your drilling? Were you using gutter mounts or tracks? I called Andrew from Autohome and he said most of their customers do this without any issue. Hard to know with so much conflicting info.

RTT makers will tell you this: the ratings truck cap manufacturers put on their products are for dynamic loads, ie. driving at freeway speeds, offroad, etc while loaded. Sitting still, like while camping, they can hold much more.

    100% correct

It works fine. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Get a high quality rack, mount it securely and you're good to go.

We have 2 adults + 2 dogs very frequently for the past 2 years with 0 issues.

When I drilled my Leer I drilled from the outside after putting painters tape down on the spots I was drilling And then taping the track to drill the pilot holes. I started with a small bit and used light pressure so I didn't blow out the inside. The key is light pressure so the drill bit does the work.
