to go down this hill alone. I know I can make it down, Newton pretty much assures it. Getting back up is the issue. I know I can't go around, I've seen the way out and my truck cant do the rocks. Anyone who has done this, think a base model 4x4 2" lift with half worn Cooper AT3's can make it up this hill? Want to go with me to hep in case it can't?

Been up and down that hill plenty of times, I’ve even gone down/up the “bypass” on the right.

With 4x4, you can make it up either one I’m sure. It looks intimidating but doable.

The rocks passed the abandoned house isn’t actually bad. The rocks are pretty small, I’ve had a buddy in a stock 3rd gen sr5 4x4 follow me that way when he didn’t want to try that hill to get out.

At this point, no way I'd try the main route, only the bypass. As for the rocks past the abandoned house, I walked it and dont think I have the clearance for it. Which is why I'm here, some who has done it, go out with me and show me

It’s steep and loose but if you pick your line you should be able to make it back up. I measures 120’ of elevation change in 300’ which is a 40% grade.

@desertjunkie760 and @Prayn4surf went down the other day

I’ve been up and down twice in the black truck. Open/Open I got about half way up and then had to back down due to poor line choice. Then starting from the middle it took both lockers to get up. From the bottom with good line choice you could probably make it up open/open. There are no ledges on the hill so you can keep your momentum and not have to worry about smashing into anything.

If you do go, bring a friend, there is nothing to winch from.

i agree with this statement but I would advise anyone who does go to be cautious of trying to go back up. I’ve seen it done locked front & rear but I really don’t think it’s doable without the front locker. I didn’t try myself when we went as we had a group that decided to continue on the full loop.

if you do decide to try make sure you’re comfortable backing back down. It’s very loose dirt and steep. If you don’t want to go back up, the trail continues on and you can make it out that way.

edit: sorry, I didn't read the original posts. Only the tagged post Shay put up. Yes, there is a bypass you can very likely make it with your setup. No, the “rock garden” is more of a pebble garden and you can make in your setup. Yes, I’d be happy to go with you to try it. I want to try going up the main hill myself.

I can barely walk down it, and no way I'd try it alone (until i drive 10' spikes every 50' to winch off of)

I walked it and didnt think i could make it, but was there alone, so not even trying it. of course there are trees and I could winch myself back if I had to....

I needed my front and rear locked when I did it. The rear locker just wanted to push the truck sideways. I would be surprised if someone did it with just a rear locker. Its super loose and steep. @desertjunkie760 watched me climb it. I didnt make it far without the front locked.

There are zero winch points on that climb. You would need another vehicle.

You can go around once youre down there. You just loop up via donohoe back to the entrance.

I was referring to the rock garden at 32.632710, -116.796882 that has trees along it.
