One of the recent wildfires was within a half-mile of my house. That particular fire wasn't started by fireworks, but I still don't understand how people aren't getting how fire-prone the whole state is right now. I'm OVER the fireworks this year...

I suppose that's not a big surprise since most everything has been cancelled. The real question is what's going to happen with college football? Since the PAC-12 has cancelled all non conference games, I'm kind of hopeful the season is cancelled. How can anyone claim a championship with an altered season?

Took @concentric_killa's recommendation over the weekend and went to Whitney Reservoir via Chalk Creek Road. It was a decent route. Enjoyed it. However, the area is private property. I'm not sure how one person(s) can own so much land, but they do. According to all the No Trespassing signs, Two Bears owns it all.

Did some exploring on Friday around Whitney, but I found it difficult to navigate using my Utah Road and Recreation Atlas. I wish I had Google Maps onboard the truck. Anyway, headed over on the North Slope Scenic route and went over Elizabeth Pass, and somewhere before Meeks Cabin Reservoir, I missed a turn, which put me in Mountain View, Wyoming.

Lots of trails to drive on in the Uinta's. As long as you don't mind the all the RZR's running around. Lots of dead pine trees. Maybe more dead than alive.

I download google maps offline versions to supplement my gaia maps if I know I'll be in a certain area. If its untamed areas like that the file sizes arent too bad either.

As far as land ownership, there's a massive ranch out in Oakley that was bought by a WW2 fighter pilot when he got back from the war with 5 years of savings and land out there was pocket change per acre. Prob a similar story in that neck of the woods. It's all family passdowns.

I've definitely got to get a better navigating setup. Maybe you could teach a short course on navigation in modern times :D.

The land likely was cheap back then. It just seems wrong for someone to own all that land in a reasonably remote part of Utah.

Swing on by, I'll give you a crash course in how I do it. May not be the best but works well for me.

Yes, that is another option. I know the onX is popular for hunting, but most people I talk to are using the Gaia App for trails.

It seems like a lot of land for one person to have control over.

Another option is the government gave it to them. My grandpas family use to own the bottom of lake till they came in and built a dam. Gave in 3000 acres on the mountain for it.

You’re right. I have no idea how it was acquired.

As long as it was acquired legally why does it matter if one person has control over it? Hopefully they are good stewards of the land but it's theirs to do as they please. Use to be people could access private property all over the US until the entitled attitude of many came along and it got shut down.
