New here and ready to buy a 2011 Tacoma

Just joined the site and what a great one it is!

Ready to buy a 2011 Tacoma, V6, 4x4, auto, Access cab (attaching a photo). I currently drive an '06 Honda Accord which replaced an '05 Dodge Ram 1500, which replaced a 1991 Toyota Extra cab 4x4 pick-up. Really miss that one and it got through me ANYTHING! The Dodge was great, too, but a month after I bought it fuel went up a dollar a gallon! Love my Accord but it's no truck!

So, I've got the bug to buy a new truck and first looked at the Ranger which is like driving a cramped tin-can. Wow, the Tacoma is so much nicer--I really can't believe the difference!

Let me ask you all: What mileage, realistically, do you think I'll get with the Tacoma? I drive a very short distance to work and back--under 4 miles and will occasionally do some highway driving. 15-17 mpg? I'm hoping for that!

Also, I researched the tires this truck is equipped with: Dunlop Grand Trek AT 2.0. Horrible reviews on TireRack.com across the board: Terrible in wet weather and light snow, great for dry conditions. I'm concerned about this because I really don't want to think about replacing tires when I just purchased a new vehicle!

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Yeah, that should be about right. I drive short distances and get the 15-17 and can squeeze 19-20 on the open road

 

With the At20s you'll do somewhere around 20 mpg mixed. They're not as bad as people will have you believe (unless you go offroad in which case they're horrible). I have 36k on my stock at20s and they'll last me another 10k miles. They're ok in rain/snow, they're light, quiet, and have a low rolling resistance.

Welcome to TW. I get about 17 in commuter driving and more like 19 or 20 with highway driving.

 

I bought my '11 two weeks ago, same as what you are getting, and ditched those Dunlops yesterday, for a set of 265/75/16 BFG Long Trails. The truck looks much better...

 

yeah the stock tires are not that bad. I live in iowa and I drive highway and country roads. i think they handle great in water and not that bad in snow. I did have to lower tire pressure to get me outta a small mud hole in a field. In snow they spin out like crazy but i have never had any other problems. but, they really do suck for tires and they need to go. I have had to put aside to get some projects on my truck to get new tires before it snows. also one of my dunlops has a slow leak out of the valve stem. What tires should i get? looking for a commercial style light truck tire. great in snow??

 

I'm getting 23mpg on highway with my Prerunner and yes stock tires are crap!

 

Average around 19mpg with my 2011 DC TRD off/road.
