I suppose that's true. I have to prepare to change jobs now. And build a truck before late September. I like deadlines

Yup, I start a new gig on Tuesday.

My deadline is trip imposed. I want to go wheeling far away so I gotta have the truck ready.

Hory sheet! 1500 miles with blown bearings? That's just unpossible :(

Was the oiler tube plugged or something?

Nope, we think it was machined poorly. The bearings had a loose fit in the bore. Out of warranty unfortunately. But easily rebuilt at home. Just have to have a larger journal bearing sent and we can do it. They make oversize ones.

Score! That's way nicer than just having an expensive paperweight.

All my experience with turbos are on diesel construction equipment.. I've never seen one where just the bearings are bad and the body or turbine didn't get forked up. You musta caught it just in time!

I've always got too much engine crap laying around the garage. I've had a 600hp VG30E on an engine stand for 9 months now haha. Need to get that going

    That was fast haha.

Are you glad you tried machining? Would you ever consider it again in the distant future?

I was forced to get rod of a bunch of my extra parts. It's alright tho I don't have a garage or storage space at my apt and my company let's me use a shelf of pallet racking for my personal stuff

It got out of hand when they let me keep most of a parted out 4runner up there:eek:

Absolutely. Its a great skill and requires plenty of problem solving and analytical capability. I'd consider it again but probably on my own time. Around here at least it tops out at roughly 50k a year.
