Brians F/R Locked Long Travel Camping and Overland Build

Mines pretty bad but my truck is also fully armored with pretty heavy 33's 67 pounds each. 11 usually and 13 highway

 

Holy shit, that is pretty bad.. i have IFS, Trans, and Transfer case aluminum skids on mine and 295/70/17s that weigh 66lbs each. Now im surprised mine isnt worse

 

Yea auto's 4speed drink that gas haha. not enough gear. Glad i drive my corolla everyday. about 25mpg city and 36 hwy

 

Welp here she is! All in. The up and down movement is pretty stiff. Haven’t greased yet because my grease gun decided to break but I tapped the flange and it still seems stiff. Any ideas @BassAckwards

 

Stiff is normal for a new ujoint. Are you able to move it at all by hand or does it feel like it's binding? If it's just tight but you can move it by hand, then that is normal from my experience

 

You could take a pen and poke the end of the zerk to see if there is grease under pressure, that might help a little, but I've found that all of mine have felt very tight after changing them. I almost thought it was suspect too bc they felt pretty tight, but after installing the driveshaft i never had issues with them

 

The up and down move ment is almost playful but the sid yo side movement isn’t binding but def takes a little force!

 

Just tapped with hammer a little more and it freeed up a little more. Maybe when I grease it it will be smoother

 

I think you're good to go. Tolerances are pretty tight on those. You went with spicer ones right?

@jowybyo how much does your front drive shaft clear the dipstick tube by?

 

Here ya go. You should be good. It’s pretty close but remember that the diff doesn’t move so the driveshaft stays pretty static.

 

Makes sense! Thanks for the pic! Did you use the stock double cab drive shaft? Mine doesn’t line up to the center support so I made some brackets l.

 

You mean the rear driveshaft? I used my stock driveshaft and had the front section shortened (by 13” if I remember correctly).

Yep, the rear. That would make since because my driveshaft for the 2wd is 77.5 inches flange to flange. The rear adapters are the same length on 2wd and 4wd. Transfer case is the 13 inches. The driveshaft for the 4wd is 64.5 hence the 13 inch difference.
