should put a tile on atleast one set of your keys. that way, you know...if you lose it you can just pull your phone out and track that puppy. "oh you wanna get lost? you wanna go where? nowhere! thats where" lol. :ballchain:

I'd just be worried that a thief might try to start it for the hell of it while they're inside, even without knowledge the fob is hidden somewhere in the truck.

The truck wont start if the fob is disabled even if it is in the truck. Try it out on your OR. It really works.

Sometimes i forget to activate it and wonder why the heck the door wont unlock.

Interesting. I thought it'd still give just enough juice to allow the truck to start while the transmitter is disabled if it's near the start button.

Do you have the key number that came on a tag with the truck? If so can you order new fobs by that and not have to tow it to the dealer? Just curious what good it would be to have the key number if you still had to tow or have 1 fob anyhow.

It has to be directly on the start button for it to work. If its anywhere else, it wont start the truck.

This happens all the time at work on our Land cruisers the fob is coded to ur vin when we lose one we just recode a new fob.
I would assume the Dealer can do this with the right info we can and we are in Afghanistan

The key number is for a key that they can actually cut based on that number. Smart keys have to be programmed or deprogrammed into the ECU so no way of doing it without a trip to the dealer or Techstream.

I think the metal detector is a great idea and if you find it have a spare fob made . You need the exercise anyway .

My 2016 PTS fob has an LED, it's really small but it's there.

It is just at the top right corner of the lock button. Should be a small hole that the led light shines through.

It was 100 yards from the truck..but it was a massive field with 3’ tall grass. Literal needle in a haystack!

there is a way to clear the memory of the old fobs and program new fobs (after you order some), i'd google a video of it. Its super easy to do with second gens, i'm sure 3rd gens arent much different.Best of luck

Hate to be that guy but it wasn't a literal needle in a haystack because it was neither a needle nor a haystack. It was literally a fob in a field, though. Good stuff.
