Start with a new valve stem. Most likely culprit and cheapest to fix.

Don't put fix-a-flat in it. That shit is nasty, it won't do anything and it'll throw the tire out of balance

Valve stem probably just worn out. Pretty typical replacement item, especially if they have never been serviced before

Ok I will try the valve stem first. It’s original and my tpms light is always on anyway.

I've experienced that with Bridgestone tires on two different vehicles. Only Bridgestone tires, and only those towards the latter end of their lifespan.

I tried replacing the valve stem to no avail. The only thing that fixed it was a new set of tires.

I now have Michelins on my Tacoma and BFGs on my Acura. I might try Bridgestone tires again, but it would have to be a really killer deal.

Learned long ago that after checking air pressure always put a bit of soapy water or saliva on the valve stem and check it after a minute or so for bubbling. If it bubbles or you otherwise suspect a problem, take a valve tool and screw out the core and screw in a new one. You can do this quickly without deflating the tire too much.
The cores do loosen up or the tiny o-rings degrade or a bit of grit gets in them. They are less than a buck apiece, and every glovebox or tool kit should have a tool and spare cores. Some old-style metal valve caps have a tool built in.

Do the tpms take any special valve cores? Or will and basic valve core that fits a rubber valve stem work?

For my 2012 it's a normal valve stem. I got mine from Wally's

It's a standard valve core.. see if it's just loose first. Usually I just need to tighten one. I'm exact about setting PSI just for that reason.. so when tpms comes on, and only one tire is off a bit, that's the first thing I check. Last time, my right rear was 5lb. lower. Sure enough, gave the valve core about 1/8 turn, and aired up. it's fine. Not always the case though. May be a slow leaker. Keep some extra cores. Replacement can be done on the truck. Be ready when you remove it. Jack up the rear end, if you want to remove all the air first, but not needed.
Keep the valve caps on, keeps crud out, especially winter crud. I like the green ones, even though I don't use nitrogen, just compressor air. I even have green caps on my air bag valves. Easier to see at a glance, more noticable at a distance if one's missing.

You know, that makes sense. I've never considered that before and the old Corolla I used it on, didn't have TPMS. Noted for future reference!

I like the green ones, too. Though I think they signify that the tire has goo in it. Metal ones with the stem tool built into the top are handy, and my Taco has fancy ones with the TRD logo on the top.
Ultimately, it's good to have any kind caps to keep the grunge out.
