Explain more please. Is this right after install? Did you pump the brakes to get them solid? Did you open any bleeders while installing the brakes?

Did not open none of the bleeders, I did pump them, the pedal is just different not like I used to feel it.... I would expect it to be harder since I put in the 2 brake shoes and 2 brake pads also my handbrake is not helping brake my truck that much so I am going to adjust the drums brakes but is it normal for it to be soft when it got new brakes.....

Adjust your rears. Not to tight but that is most likely your problem.

    1) check for leaks in front calipers or drums
    2) bleed lines RR, LR, RF, LF in that order
    3) make sure rear shoes are adjusted correctly using star wheel in the drum. Brake feel on these trucks comes from the drums

Edit: I'd bet money that your drums need adjustment. I literally just adjust mine until the pedal feels just how I like it and the parking brake is nice and firm

if that doesn't help you have a sticky caliper slide.

Ok, the next step is to make sure your calipers are sliding freely, then bleed the brakes.

Did you open the bleeders or just shove the nasty junky brake fluid at the calipers back up into the system?

Calipers do not slide on the Prerunner and 4X4 Trucks. They have fixed calipers.

Only the 5 lug Tacoma's have floating calipers.

Thank you, I did not know what type of brakes he had based on the limited information I received. My understanding was the tacomas have floating calipers front, and drum rear, the tundra used fixed calipers. I hadn't taken mine apart yet, so thank you. This is my first tacoma, just going on experience with everything else.

I wonder if pedal feel can also have to do with choice of parts for the rotors and pads, and if they get bedded in or not.

For example, certain pads are said to have better initial bite than others

My advice is use speed bleeders, run a couple of bottles through it. Tighten up the rear brakes using the adjuster about as much as you can. Drive to a safe place where you can slide a little bit, like wet grass or something. Do high speed reverse and lock up the brakes. Do high speed forward, lock them up. Do high speed reverse and lock them up. There, the rear is set. If it's still spongy, bleed them again. If that doesn't work, probably need to use a scan tool to activate the ABS pump to get the air out, then bleed again.

Im installing 4TR brake upgrade in the morning (unless the hurricane weather hits us) so I'm going to have to do all of this... Again.... Lol!

Also this isn't in the manual, but, if you unplug the right rear wheel speed sensor and drive to the end of the block you will hear the ABS motor run, then error out and all your ABS lights will come on the dash. Sometimes that will get the motor to pump some air out, then bleed again, use OBD to reset ABS error codes and plug speed sensor back in. Sometimes that can work. I'll be honest with... dealing with The Tacoma brake system sucks balls! I'd rather blow and have to rebuild an axle than deal with the brakes, lol!

Well guys know I have another problem my brakes was working fine after the aduce you guys gave me. Now it is making a grinding noise on the driver side drum brake, I have took it apart lubed the point where the brake shoes rest on and inspected everything and I don’t see nothing. And well I don’t know how much clears the brake patas has so I might be able to bend it a little
