I just drove up to NC to pick this up yesterday. Sitting looking at it through the window of the breakfast place. One of the last three TRD Off Roads on the lot and the only Long Tom. Paid just a hair under $38k with dealer fees, SC $500 capped tax and title paperwork. Prices are at all time highs but I'm mid 40s and tired of not having the things I want. I transfered tags from my GMC 4x4 which he gave me about 4-5% less than I could have gotten on AT if I had been patient (by which time I wouldnt have gotten the truck I wanted and he knocked some off the new Taco so I didnt care)

I'm very excited too. In a way it's sad because I'm going to be selling my Liberty that I had for so long but I do think it's time for something new. I'm on a camping trip now and I just realized on thing I won't need to deal with and that's waiting for someone to move away from the only diesel pump with their Gasser.

OTD is useless, too many varying factors, I don't know why people insist on even discussing this, it should only be price of new truck after discounts for comparison.

OTD is useless because of the variance in sales tax. Final sale price minus- Sales tax is a number that is comparable from region to region, yet still captures all the made up fees.

If you trade in or put cash down, you need to add that to the number above.

Huh? You’re confused. Financing 90% of a $40,000 vehicle would mean that you’re borrowing and making payments on $36,000. You would be putting $4000 down.
Many people do this. There are plenty of people who put almost nothing down. I personally don’t think that’s a good idea but to each their own.

People not listening their trade in as part of the deal really screws things up too. If you get fleeced on your trade-in they’ll give you any discount you want. I guarantee there’s a good number of posts on this thread that this would be the case with.
We just bought a Honda accord for my wife so I was looking at the accord what did you pay threads. they have a template that everybody uses and supposedly if you don’t put all the information in the template then your post gets taken down. They also have a thread for strictly this template and no conversation and then they also have one for what did you pay with conversation.
The good thing about the Tacoma world thread is that there is a new one each year where as I’ve noticed others are just continuous and also we have a LOT more posts than the Accord threads.
They don’t have MSRP but that is because they don’t have different options available on a trim. Each trim has the options it has and that’s it there’s no changing anything so the MSRP is the same for all vehicles of that trim.

Agree 110 percent. There was a spreadsheet that someone started that was close to what you describe. I started a SR/SR5 pricing thread since they are scarce on here.
What you have described above would be great, need a moderator though (who I am afraid would be quite busy with the delete button). I especially like the part about getting fleeced on the trade, I have said that a few times myself on here, they will give you whatever you want for your trade as long as you pay whatever they want to charge you for the truck, they find your hot button and cater to it and make it up elsewhere. Sales 101.

Damn....at least they're charging MSRP here in NJ and I think that's bad already!
Thank you!! Saw something I like. But not sure how much of a discount they'll willing to give. Since they're only 1.5 hours away, maybe I'll take a drive down this wkend to explore the area and check out the truck in person. But if they aren't willing to play ball (I'm looking for a 10% discount), I think I'll be forced to wait until 2021.

totally agree with you. It blows my mind that the average car payment these days is $500-$600 dollars a month for +6 years. In my mind, that’s not normal.

It blows my mind even more that some folks are buying Tacoma’s right now at MSRP+

maybe I’m crazy and/or I’m just that poor to not be able to afford this haha.

The best way to buy a vehicle is loan yourself money from your 401k or other retirement plan. Why pay a bank 4% when you can pay the interest to yourself? The payments get automatically deducted from your paycheck so you dont even have to worry about that. Plus if you lose your job and have to default, the loan is not connected to the vehicle in any way. You just go to the dealer and pay him cash with the money from your 401k. If you do have to default you just pay taxes and early withdrawl penalty on the remaining principal of the loan as if you had just taken an early cash withdrawl. Talk to your retirement plan manager.

You aren't crazy a 600$ car payment is like almost a mortgage payment or rent. . It's crazy. What is crazy is people buy them and trade them and loose money on them. Then finance negative equity.

I seen the writing on the wall. I wanted a newer or new vehicle so I started to save car payment money while my 2006 Jeep was still running good. Actually I could keep it but 11 years of ownership, I feel like it's had a good run even with a major failure. I just wanted out while I can still sell it for more then scrap metal.

I'm going to put so much down that I'll have payments like I bought a Corolla on mine. I can stomach under $400 a month for 60 months. Better than $600+ for 72.

This is super interesting to me. I was in the market/bought in Feb. I touched base with every dealer within 50 miles and couldn't get follow up/response/clear conversation to save my life!
Maita was the exception. Granted, Feb was prior to the shortage, but I've literally never been in a market that was more challenging to GIVE my money to. R***ville Toyota topped the loser list.

FINALLY after being on this thread since its creation basically, I can add my own info! I ordered a 2020 truck back in late February but due to covid causing factory shutdowns and such, only finally got it today. BUT this ended up working out well for me in the end!

Bought a 2020 Cement Off-Road 6MT with Premium, Advanced Tech, and LED packages, plus the port adds the all-weather floor mats and door sill protectors. Declined anything else such as GAP, paint protection, bumper-to-bumper extended warranty (though they do include a 10yr/150k mile drivetrain warranty on all new cars from this place for $0, which is nice), etc. I'll take care of that kind of stuff on my own as needed. No other accessories or add-ons. MSRP is $42,503.

The dealer I got it from is a "no haggle" place, so pretty much take what they give you. They were going to sell it to me at today's current pricing, which was just under MSRP basically, but I reminded them that I ordered back in Feb and that we had an agreed upon price already! Luckily I still had the email with the quote and was able to bring it up on my phone to prove it. Because of that, I got it for a sale price of $39,432 (took the 1.9% rate, so didn't get the additional $1000 rebate). That puts me at around 7% discount and is comparable to a different dealer I checked with Costco pricing back around the same time I ordered in Feb. Being a "no haggle" place and having to do a special order/allocation, I was ok with that even back then, BUT that is a great price now since they are barely discounting at all right now.

As you probably also know, due to the shortage of vehicles they are paying very well for used vehicles/trade-ins. I traded in my 2019 Sport 6MT with Premium and Tech packages. They mostly go close to KBB trade-in value as a rough estimate and back in Feb that was around $29k is all. I was somewhat disappointed, but due to reasons I've talked about before, I wanted to get a clean and new truck, so I sucked it up. Well, due to current circumstances, they offered $33k on my trade-in. Net gain of $4000 for waiting an extra 4 months, I'll take it! I was pretty happy with that and combined with the discounted sale price above, it worked out pretty well on the timing, I'd say.

Also, due to the decreased sale price and the increased trade-in price, that helped even more with sales taxes. In MN you only pay sales tax on the difference between your sale and trade-in prices. So instead of paying ~$39.5k * 6.5% = $2563 in sales tax, I only paid ($39.5k - $33k) * 6.5% = $418. So another $2000 in "savings"!

Things are a little muddy with trade-in and payoff values being mixed in, but with sales price $39432 + tax $418.08 + licence $542.50 + doc fees $125, that puts me at about $40.5k OTD for the actual new truck itself, without considering the trade-in (other than its affect on sales tax).

Side note: Mine also had the homelink rearview mirror which was unexpected. I thought those only came with the Pros? My old 2019 with Premium didn't have it anyway! I was going to get it separately, so by having it on the truck already that is $200 or so in my favor too.

So happy for you ... ! Normally, the house always wins so I am glad it worked in your favor.

Of course, if it was me, I would lock that lower price in and then ask them if they want to buy it for $5K over MSRP from me and then sit tight and wait ... :). I kid. I kid.

I'd like to know where you can rent or buy for $600 a month, bahaha. Even when I lived in Tucson, AZ last year $800-900 for a bedbug special apartment.

$600 a month for a car payment is not a ridiculous amount in todays world. Average new car price is $30k.

Dude. I live in NY ... for $600 I think you can get a port a potty at a construction site with a gas grill. :)
