Finally got my Capra a shake down on some rocks. These old MudSlingers did pretty good with a full size closed cell foam. These are my first portal axles and they do make a very big difference.

Wow.. just saw this thread pop up and it brought me back to my younger days as a kid when I had the Traxxis TMAXX and EMAXX Loved them...but the T was finicky with nitro and I broke parts left and right.
Now I have a son and I’d like to get him into this. I’m sure parts/tech have changed a bunch a decade+ later. Can someone recommend a good 1/8 electric offroad truck(preferably RTR) like the old Emaxx?
I saw the Redcat a few pages back and looks pretty solid.

Kings, 275/70/17, a few custom items, lots of Meso mods.
I'm new to all this so I won't be much help. After I build my wide body taco I'm considering this one. It just looks like a lot of fun but may be more for you than the little one. So many different models to choose from but quite a few people on here with lots of knowledge.

The Traxxas TRX-4 is easy to drive and if you get the crawler with a 2 speed it is beginner friendly when in low range.

I don't have any experience with other models though.

That's awesome. My pug ignores crawlers but will chase the shit out of one that moves any faster.

@MESO, 5 years old, kept it in low gear and he did really well. I have a feeling this won't be my truck for long

Thanks guys!!! I just went ahead a pulled the trigger on a E-MAXX 8S 1:5. Also ordered some 6800mAh lipos and charger.
If I’m going to jump back into R/C I’m going big. Does anyone know if there is a way to dumb down the controller(throttle) for a novice driver? Maybe a setting, if not I’m thinking I could 3D print some type of stopper to snap over the throttle to limit it’s movement.

Some Traxxas models have training mode just need to set the esc up that way

I think that model is discontinued..... I'd be careful and check into that especially with covid. A newer release like the e Revo Maxx or xmaxx may be easier to find parts for

Cool. I’ll look Into the training mode. Sorry, it was a “TRAXXAS X-MAXX 8S BRUSHLESS 4WD MONSTER TRUCK ORANGE”
    Not E-maxx

I was not sure about the E-Maxx, but yes the X-Maxx you can adjust throttle sensitivity and even put the vehicle in a training mode that cuts power to 50% (I think.) The X-Maxx comes with the TQi transmitter, but you do need the Traxxas Link wireless module (part #6511) to get easy access (with app on your cell phone) to adjusting settings and even accessing real-time telemetry (its one of the very few models they offer with built-in telemetry out of the box.)

Yeah the little functions on the app are great... When they don't work it's Awesome to know the beeps and lights and button presses to get back to where the kid can drive
