Measured up the Trail Toys fuel tank skid for drilling:



Drilled one hole, then used the OEM skid to transfer punch the remaining holes:

Ordered the Icon Delta Joint Tubular Upper Control Arm Kit - 58450DJ and will be installed on 8/12, along with lowering the front to give it that factory rake. Here is the before picture and will post an after picture once completed.

 

I bought them for mine and hunting is exactly why I bought them. I don't really worry about what someone else might think, If I need 'em just once they're worth having.
If you don't care for the look spray them black and you won't even notice them.

What did you add in the rear for lift and how do you like the ride compared to stock?

 

How are they "not rated" for recovery? It's a nice gusseted design that wraps around the crossmember. It's better than the OEM recovery hook.

I'd remove the shackles and store them in the truck. Else the constant movement will wear through the powdercoat in the bracket eyelet. You'd have to remove the shackle anyway to loop a recovery rope through one.

 

Just because the manufacturer didn’t actually put a rating on them apparently.

 

I have the demon brackets and shackles too. I didnt like how they hung low so i pushed them back.

 

Me too. I love the new style and the electronics but I miss inside cubby space and the engine and transmission. Mine had 249K miles on it when we parted. The last day I actually owned it I get a flat in the rain at work. Thankfully we have Insurance coverage for that and I just assisted. It got traded in with a flat in the bed!

So after only two weeks of owning my first Tacoma, I have done my first mod....Installing new 265/70/17 Falken Wildpeaks. They really make it look like a truck. After owning nothing but highway tires on all other vehicles I am amazed at how quiet they are and how well they ride. Looking forward to many more mods over time. Looking to possibly do the Eibach 2" lift with the headstrong 3 leaf AAL next.

Added rekgen mud guards and noticed that the hardware was junk. The spacer looks to be only quarter inch fuel line hose. After a trip to Home Depot, got some better spacers and new washers and it fits like a glove.

 

Looks great, love the look of those Falkens.

I only replaced the stock bracket with the single BulletProof Fab bracket. I figured if I use it one time then it is worth the cost. The one from the factory just didn't seem worthy of a 1,000 pound pull much less a several thousand pound pull.

 

Usually this type of problem is caused by a leaking ARB Diff. I'd pull the filter and rubber band a balloon to the vent hose and activate the ARB. See if the balloon fills, or not...

The stock breather/valve is just that, a valve. The diff gets warm, the air inside expands, the valve opens, the pressure is released. The diff gets dunked, it cools off the valve closes and a vacuum is created in the diff. Water is then drawn in past a dirty valve that doesn't close all the way or one of the seals (which are designed to keep fluid IN the diff) at the axles or the drive shaft. Putting a stock style breather/vent at the end of a hose just moves the problem.

On my 89 Toyota pick-up and my 06 TRD Tacoma I ran a hose with a vent/filter that was open all the time allowing air to flow both ways freely. On my FJ I ran a hose into the jack compartment behind the L/R wheel well. I put a small K&N Filter on the end of the hose. Never smelled gear oil in the cabin. Never had water in the diff. Never had oil come out the hose. I haven't done this mod on my Tacoma yet. But, it will get the same filter mounted behind a tail light.
