Any 3.4 engine performance upgrades?

Any easy engine performance upgrades out there other then superchargers or turbos out. I've been researching have found much and upgrade anyone has done to improve performance

 

Drive sporty haha, they stop pulling as hard around 4k, long runners causes them to choke. Take advantage of the insane torque curve and shift fast right before 4k. Other than that they need forced induction. The timing is already aggressive, and it's supposed to be a slow turning truck motor.

Open up the air box and high flow exhaust. I was really happy with that on my old truck. Do all the regular maintenance and keep it running tip top.

 

Just leave it... longevity and stuff.

 

The engine is usually one of the cheapest parts to replace in my trucks tho.

 

Typically, it’s cheaper for me to not replace the engine than it is to replace the engine.

 

Fair enough. I enjoy tuning, and while the 5vz is admittedly weak structured. It should hold 350hp with a conservative tune. Gotta make my junkyard turbo kit out perform that lame as hell supercharger TRD whipped up back in the day. And if it happens to pop, no skin off my back, it's a weekend project to put another in.

 

I’d love to have a vehicle where that could be my thought process! My engine has to be 100% reliable with the way I use my vehicle. If I break down in my tacoma, it’s going to be a shit storm to get it towed out.

 

That's how I use mine too, I don't tune on the trail though. I nail out my stuff before it ever hits dirt, well beyond the dirt close to my house. And obviously there's some room in both our ideas of rock solid because using a 15+ year old vehicle for this kind of stuff will always have more risk than something new.

 

You’re more brave than I! I have no intentions of upping the power on something that takes me multiple hours away from the nearest person. You’re right though. Counting on a 16 year old vehicle to not have any issues could be considered asinine.

 

Certainly not for the faint of heart at first, but you get comfortable with it over time. It's taken me this long to get good enough to even consider doing it to my Wheeling rig.

 

Don’t mess with dependability. Keep it stock and clean. Buy a go fasty - Hellcat, GT500 or SS something.

 

But why have a midlife crisis boomer mobile when you could have a long travel turbo taco? The Toyota is not holy, it's virtue isn't pure. It can be played with safely.
