Getting the bug to go camping in the mountains. I need to get away from the grind of work, Lyft driving, coronavirus, and just the city in general.

Thinking about Guanella Pass, never been there before. I have a 15 degree REI sleeping bag and Quarter Dome tent that I have sadly never used.

Any recommendations or other badass places to go?

Depending on how long you have, the San Juan range is absolutely amazing. I’m going in mid August and I’m chomping at the bit to get out there

My chrome app decided to change the font size on my TW to the point where it is unusable. Safari is the only thing that works and I always forget about.

Life has definitely been being lived!

Cheers to you though. I’ve got a Busch Light waiting on you if you ever make it to the trail again.

Nice! I guess Shaw owns Coretec so it’s probably the same stuff we got. Ours is a similar color too. We got the Shaw in Santa Maria.

I am still doing subfloor prep for the next few days. Will hopefully start laying sometime this week. Have a pallet and a half of it sitting in the garage. That shit is heavy, not looking forward to hauling it upstairs.

I've scrounged enough parts to make the steering spindles.

Still in the mock up stage. The square tubing is the remnants of a welding table that i cut up a few years ago to get it out of the way. It'll be cleaned up and the ladder type frame is prolly what it'll end up as. The round brass bar front "axle" will not be used, it's my own version of PVC mock up.

It'll be about that size due to the longest pieces being about that length. :burp:

A couple years ago they did away with the roadside camping (which really didn't seem like "dispersed") since it was getting out of control. There are a few campgrounds along that road, if that's your thing.

Pretty much. If you have service (if not you start walking until someone comes along or you get service) and don't know anyone, you call the sheriff or forest service. They'll know the local recovery options, and there's almost always someone local. I don't have and can't find a picture of it, but I always liked the sign I saw in Marble as you head up toward Lead King/Crystal that basically had a warning about rough road, a phone number, and 'it won't be cheap'. I've seen that kind of sign in a number of places. You can try your roadside assistance if you have it, or there's a recovery club that's mentioned a few times around here (and may end up being who gets the call anyway). There's a couple of posts on here with links to video of the recovery of the FJ that flopped on Black Bear and the recovery of that - local guy, professional rigger, etc. It's an interesting video to watch, and educational if you can follow what's going on. We had another member who was very active on here (sorry if you're still around, I've not been much myself) who had a truck burn down up on a pass, and some of the guys from here went up and helped him get it down. That's a whole series of posts in this thread if you go looking for it.

The road wasn't exactly difficult before, but after they paved it... Just no way they could have roadside camping up there, not with the all the 14er traffic and it being the beginner/easy ones. I think the only dispersed camping is going to be heading up Leavenworth Creek/Argentine Pass - everything else off that road is either private or campground only, at least if memory serves. I guess technically there's spots off 243.3D, but while it's been a looong time since I was up that I sure don't remember very many or any good ones. @MtnMan307 you'd want to take a look at the MVUM for the area: https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd570785.pdf

Not that one. This is a 'hand made' sign right at the edge of town in Marble and was specifically about recovery services. It may not be there anymore, it's been like 10 years since I saw it. I wish I'd taken a picture of it, but it was one of those 'that's cute' things that you see and remember but don't think is worth a picture at the time.
