Hahahha - that train gives me headache multiple times a day!!!
I leased the truck to try it out, and I could easily bought it but was not sure if I like it. I have never owned truck in my life and listened to buddy of mine who insisted that I will love it!
He was right - I have fallen in love with it....hence the decision being difficult. Now which side of the brain is going to win - rational (finances, negative equity, car losing its value, car very bad investment) or

This 2020 I have is is my first lease as well. I’m liking the leasing aspect. Cheap payments, it came with the maintenance plan, I literally only have to put gas in it and drive it. After 8 months, I’m not real happy with the power or the level of luxury I am use to with past vehicles even though it is a limited. It’s nice knowing I’ll be moving on before I know it as I only leased it for 27 months.

This is my 3rd Tacoma and my love of it’s quality and utilitarian approach that I remembered from my late 80s and mid-90s model still exist, I just think I’ve changed as I’ve gotten older and have realized that I want more spoils.

i believe your main hangup or talking point is not having the Taco under a roof/in garage. As you say it's not about money, but there's always talk of depreciation because of the fact of no roof over it's body. Your asking is it worth to spend $30k for a 3yo well kept truck that will be under Nature. Like most all vehicles it will lose value in time and maybe more so if you don't keep up with the aesthetics or service, of course there are very very very rare exceptions and the Taco doesn't fall into that category.

Let's say you bought that New 4Runner and having no garage space for it? You're back at square #1 with just about any New vehicle that can't fit in your garage, unless you decide to get a "sacrificial vehicle" in that circumstance. Get rid of the Taco, buy a vehicle that fits in the garage or buy a "sacrificial truck" that you can live with the thoughts of it deteriorating in the wild and Enjoy Life not having to worry about it, not having to wash/wax constantly, etc. Then you can spend more time on other things, taking care and cleaning your other vehicles, yada yada yada

or are you asking people, is a 3yo Taco well maintained and well known history by it's owner worth $30k( questions on reliability, etc.)? Then, it comes down to, Would you spend $30k knowing very well that it'll live out in the open and having to give it more maintenance time vs. a garaged vehicle?

or is it a question of, Am I coming out ahead turning in the truck or keeping it for $30k(because of the initial negative investment, -$4k)?

4 runner fits in the garage. And your last paragraph is where the dilemma lies...

I hear you - same here, the “manufacturer recommended “ service is included with my lease as well which I truly like. I ended up taking the car for oil change and tire rotation every 3000 miles (instead of every 5000 recommended by manufacturer) and dealer did not even question anything :)
I already replaced engine and cabin air filters once...

But I just took some picture today underneath and sides of rust start to show which amazes me considering it is 1.5 years old car :(

This is way more important than the weekly wax in The North East.

You don't need to change the oil every 3K, you can stick with 10K like Toyota recommends.

Yes, sometimes that is the one place a lease with a vehicle like the Tacoma or Jeep Wrangler (Higher Resale) makes sense, if you can keep the mileage under the lease requirements you can pretty much wash out negative equity if you are carrying. Negative equity on a trade will be carried until you pay it...no matter how many times you trade down the road, at some point your going to pay for it. In the OP's case, he has the opportunity to walk away clean. If he were trying to trade the truck at this point (had not leased it) the dealership would not offer the 28K etc they are offering now, so he would be carrying the negative equity from the first trade.

There's a recall for models up to 2017. Wouldn't be surprised if they made it for newer ones too.

LIMITED SERVICE CAMAIGN K0D (Remedy Notice) - Certain 2011 - 2017 Model Year Tacoma - Frame Corrosion Resistant Compound (CRC) Application

I just scheduled a service for tomorrow morning.

My frame looks pretty damn good cause I power wash it whenever they salt the roads in the winter/am very anal about keeping it clean after having a rusted 02. It does say if it's bad they'll replace the frame. I'm assuming they'll just apply the CRC, curious to see what they use. I'll let you know.

    None, yet
Man, where are these the prices? Demand isn't that bad where I live and there's plenty of stock. I just got quoted for a 2020 TRDOR4X4DC for $35k OTD. I just bought my 2016 TRDOR4X4DC with premium, tech, perfect condition and low miles for $26.5k OTD. If someone spends $35k on a 3 year old used TRD Sport they are crazy as hell.

Well if you worked that into your deal somewhere that's great, BUT Toyotacare only covers 2 free oil changes, you can pick them whenever you like but then are on your own.
