Why no rear fog lamp on vehicles in USA when everyone loves front fogs?

Edit: totally agree. Having to add an aftermarket lamp would suck. Back in England trucks are starting to stick, quite a few Hilux and Mitsubishi’s on the road

I was driving behind an Audi one night that had rear fogs. It was some of the stupidest, most annoying shit I've ever seen. Totally blinding to me and anyone else behind it.

And blinding people in front too probably... I bet most traffic cops wouldn’t know it’s a ‘feature’ being used wrongly :)

    And that right there folks....
Is why we can't have nice things.

It's like following all the goofy ass chinesium taillights, that are too bright and there's very little difference from parking light to brake light.

I drove behind a guy with rear fog lights and it made it much easier seeing him on a very dusty trail. It made me want to get them.

Using them when you're offroading on a dusty trail is one thing. That's very common and helps increase your visibility tremendously. But when people run them on public roads at night when there's no inclement weather of any kind all it's doing is blinding people behind them.

If you're driving that close on a dusty road, the lights aren't the problem

They are that bright, people are being blinded. Let’s focus on being blinded by on coming traffic with some of the dam aftermarket headlights. Then we can talk about not getting so close you are being blinded by some rear lights.

Read the link before posting, PLEASE. That way at least your reply makes sense.

The idea in principle is sound. But in a way we are already doing much the same thing and have for years. The standards for marker lights in this country have improved greatly in recent years. The rear facing lights are much brighter, and much more numerous than previously. Get behind someone at night driving an older car from the 1980's or older and the difference is huge compared to cars built in the last few years. Going to an European style of brighter tail lights would only improve things slightly compared to where we are now

they are there in europe primarily a direct result of HI SPEED hi-ways

    & ' overtaking ' !!

with speed differentials up to 100mph

the overtaking vehicle can ' overdrive ' standard tail lites..............

be right up on the vehicle ahead & NOT be able to react to avoid running into them

    got nowhere to go...............

that accounts no less in good conditions

as the headlites can be overdriven by speed also

has happened on the track at Le Mans

Having been behind a car with one in poor visibility conditions, it makes a hell of a difference. When used correctly, they’re great.

    Mostly dust and dirt.
It’s not uncommon to see people driving with their fog lights on in clear weather. Adding even more fog lights to a truck isn’t helpful.
