I have a 5 year old Tacoma. It gets hot here and I use the A/C frequently...always have. Pulled the rubber flap away to take a good look. No rust....zero....zilch. The inside of my frame in that area is already full of Liquid Wrench rust inhibitor from my annual treatments anyway. But I went ahead and coated the entire outside area of the frame with it as well, since I had access to it.

Just seems like non-issue to me. :notsure:

How do you remove the 2 clips? Just putting pressure with a flat screwdriver? I do not want to break them, thanks

I have an actual clip puller. Made it very easy.

I ended up routing the hose through the external side of the frame, as far away as possible from the exhaust, I think it ended up well.

Finally got around to doing this... waited seven months. Just in time for the FL summer! Nice, quick... and easy. Should have been my first mod, but procrastination's a muthaf#cker.

Thanks OP (@Uptown2k) for the write up. And thanks to all for the different suggestions! Y'alls pics are AWESOME!!!

Anybody know where I can get replacement clips for the little liner? Took them on and off a few times to get it perfect and now the liner flops loose from time to time

i also needed to replace the clips on mine, so i went with this. the way that i saw it, doesn't hurt to have these lying around in case your truck or other vehicles need some replacements too. plus, there's a removal tool that comes with it! i use one from the bottom row in the first photo.. from L -> R, either the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. i forget, but it is very secure.

The A/C dripping on my 2001 1st gen taco was the final nail in it's coffin.

The a/c drip over 18 years finally caused the right lower control arm to break; least I mention the failed Toyota frame under-coating "solution."

    Do this mod.

Did this mod to my truck this week. Thanks for sharing OP!

7k miles and no rust yet, but this was easy and cheap. No reason not to do it.

I had a similar "shitty" smell coming from my Taco when I got it with 16k miles... It came from TX so I'm positive the AC was run constantly with the first owner. Here is a video describing a service Toyota does to remedy this problem. I removed the in cabin air filter and used a can of lysol instead of the toyota stuff. After several cycles spraying in the hood intake and glove box intake, I sprayed some up the AC drain mod hose too. It smelled like lysol for about a month so make sure you pick a scent you enjoy! This got rid of the "shitty" smell. Now when I use AC for extended periods of time... before I shut the truck off I turn the AC off but keep the fan running to clear out any condensation. Seems to work.

Yep, saw that video before. I have since started using Ozium air freshener and spraying it in all 4 of the air intakes under the windshield (After I take the cabin filter out of course) This stuff is bad ass compared to Lysol which I have not seen a can on the shelves at the local Walmart for the last 4 or 5 months. I got rid of the funk with the Ozium and I use it once a month just to keep it from getting ahold in my truck again. What I do before I turn the truck off is leave the A/C on and just turn the temperature control knob all the way over to high heat and the blower on high. I then let it blow hot air with the A/C on for 2 minutes then turn the A/C off but leave the fan on high with the high heat still on then I shut my truck off and before I get out I turn the fan knob back to off and the temp knob back to the cool setting. Do that so I don't get in next time and turn the A/C on and drive a mile down the road and look over and see the temp knob is still on high heat from where I forgot it before. LOL!

Seems to be working great to me.

Nice—- did you do this to your 2020? Just got a new one 2 days ago. Looking to see what preventative stuff I should/can take care of now.

You have a stick? ADM + MT-90 transmission fluid.

Spend any time around here and you will have a long list in short order.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
    • Rear diff breather if you're going through deeper water or at least before it corrodes shut.
    • Not a mod but snug down your u-bolts to 52 lb-ft.
    • Lube up your gas door before it seizes over time and bends hinge
    • Interior center armrest organizer; truck should've come with one
Other than that, drive and enjoy it.
