I believe @Phessor did an entire relocation to the wheel well with oversized Ford filters I think.

 

Yeah he did, I just don't want any extra hoses and stuff to mount if I can avoid it. The oil filter thread on these is the same as just about any other car out there 3/4-16. So tons of options. I'd just run a regular yzzd3, if just won't suck to change. I could reach right in from the top if this idea pans out

 

Your hoping it will point upwards? I'm not sure that'll work out but will be curious to see.

Not upwards, right toward the fan shroud. I don't mind how he did it, it's a common solution. But I'd just like to avoid the clutter and having to mount a cast aluminum filter housing to something that gets bumped around so much (frame). If that busted and exposed the oil channel, you'd have a toast engine before you knew it.

The engines move but they aren't subject to shock loads, they're isolated from the intense waves the suspension, especially a bottom out, subjects the frame to. Same way the body is partially isolated.

 

I did mine because I was tired of taking off the skid plate.

 

My billet oil filter relocation housing is actually attached to the fender well below the battery. The hoses are custom 5000 psi hydraulic lines.
I wished Toyota would have come up with a better design in the first place.

 

I can't put anything there unfortunately, but it's a good spot for something like this for sure. I wish the Toyota design on this was better too, the weird upward angle of the oil filter boss is just strange and makes getting your hand in a real chore. Your system is really nice. Most of the pre-made kits sold would be okay for a car, but for our trucks and the way they're used I think you have to come up with something like you did because the possibility of breakage is too great. I'm looking to avoid routing lines and such. I even considered moving the oil cooler to the front and using the part it was on to hold my oil filter instead because then it could hang directly down. We will see.

 

I tried to do the remote location to the fender well right underneath the battery

didn’t get the pipe fittings tight enough on the adapter that goes on the engine. Oil went everywhere when I turned on the engine. so I abandon that project temporarily.

This seems like a much more install friendly option with less opportunity for leaks.

I’m curious about getting the adapter starter to the right position so that it tightens facing down

 

Because of the way the 5VZ one faces upward by default you'd have to relocate the stock oil cooler to the oil filter location and use the oil cooler mounting spot for the oil filter. (They're both oil filter threaded parts if the engine, hell you could run two filters and toss the cooler in the trash if you were so inclined, not that it's a good idea)

Glad I could provide some motivation! It's not as difficult as it seems, though this makes me want to do Tundra CV's (already ripped a CV boot) and new front suspension. Need fresh new tires as well! I bought these tires used for cheap to give a good template for tubbing

Made a pilgrimage to Moab, did half of fins n things, got a few pics but none on actual obstacles. Went to pink coral dunes before that and had a blast cruising around. Was told by the attendant that a few jeeps had gotten stuck in the sand that day and the ranger had to pull them out so I just aired way down on my bald 31s

 

ES is really great with helping to figure out what you need particular to your truck or the problems you're having with the bushings. They'll look up the VIN, you can email them pics & when they say they're going to get back to you, they really do. On my second round of issues, unbeknownst to me, the rep looked up & read through my ongoing "short story long Kristi" saga on TW & was able to figure out what must have happened & even though it was not due to an ES defect, they replaced the mounts.
I still had to make some adjustments by using neoprine washers, but that was because the "mechanic" caused some damage to the cab where the right position 3 bushing is. (Don't get me started.... )....
Anywho, as I have repeatedly reminded myself.... out loud.... on here.... when said bushings are brought up, in a way he did me a fave cuz that was what kicked off the "I do it myself"s & now I have a practically brand new '01 Tacoma that I did myself with a little hands on help with a couple things & lots of advice/input/at'a girl's from TW folks....

Oh, & the bushings are great.... I absolutely do not regret having chosen ES over stock.... (not a stock hater.... just making that clear....)
Totally understandable though if they don't fit your truck, however since you paid ES for them & they don't fit, it's worth a shot to see if they'll make it right either by getting you ones that fit or refunding some money.... my 4 cents....

Sounds to me like you possibly just need the same size in position 3 as you have in 2....
