Dirt Bike Bed Shoe

Mine is not At The Helm. I was talking about my tie down bar.

 

The one from At The Helm is was stronger then that CCR stuff. Like the one I have it is full length and ties the front rail to the side rails making it way stronger.

I needed a rail to keep the bikes off the folded up tonneau cover, but didn’t find exactly what I needed so I fabbed one up. It’s mounted with 4 tee nuts on the rails and if it tries to move I will add a kicker going forward. Makes securing cargo much easier too.

 

Yeah the rear strap is overkill. I use to put 2 bikes in the back of my old toyota 4wd pickups like that when running more local events here in new england. We had an enclosed trailer for running national events.

 

Yep my skills are far from being able to attend national events. I am prepping for a solo trip to New Mexico or Colorado late spring early summer...in search of single track and scenery. Leaning towards a rack n ride.

 

I would highly advise against compressing the forks to strap them down. One, you WILL blow through seals if you do that. Every person I've rode with over the last 10 years that claims it's no big deal has leaky forks...coincidence, maybe. Two, I've seen too many times that a good bump will still compress the forks enough that it will create slack in the straps. Simple solution, that fixes both of the above, get a fork brace for a few bucks like https://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/rider-cargo-motorcycle-fork-brace-p They slip between the front wheel and the fender and prevent the forks from compressing and allows you to strap down solid instead of having to take-up suspension travel.

 

I never had an issue, use some commonsense you don't fully compress the forks that you'd have damage occur. I ran gncc races for several years, i can't remember having a single issue related to the forks by traveling that way.

 

BS, I have transported my dirt bikes for 20 year all over the Western US and never once have I had leaky fork seals. No one I know uses fork braces and no one has issues either. Leaky seals area almost always from dirt and lack of proper cleaning. Also never had a bike come loose and fall over without using them. Some of the roads I have driven to get to riding areas have been bad too. If you like the braces, great use them. But saying not using them causes forks to leak is not true.

You will be looking along time. There are ones like The Bed Buddy which can be made to fit but the one At The Helm makes that bolts into the factory bed rail will be way stronger. That 2 piece design is super strong.

 

I will be running just one bike, right in the center of the bed, and thus right where the two pieces meet.
ATH looks like an elegant set up. ATH, do you offer a refund if your product has been installed, I am concerned with flex in the center when loaded.
