It's so hard whenever we loose a furry loved one. I still tear up when l think of them.

I just keep telling myself that l gave them a life fill of love and affection. They would have lived somewhere else if l didn't have them. But I know that they always felt loved with us. Each and every day.

Finally, the truth where your name came from.

I had a cat named Wilbur I got when I was 10 years old as a kitten, had him almost 20 years. He was a huge male and mean as a rattlesnake but loving at the same time.

Today was a good day. And it was a somewhat funny day (depending on your sense of humor).

We were able to get an appointment with the vet tech at the shelter for 10:00 am this morning. My wife took the little guys in and they were prescribed amoxicillin and metronidazole and marquis paste and the first doses were given at the shelter.

Depending on you perspective this may or not be the funny part. Shortly after departing the shelter, without time for the anti diarrheal having a chance to kick in, Pepper exploded with an epic bout of diarrhea. My wife drove the 15 miles back to home with horrendous smells and very unhappy, yowling kittens.

In a gag worthy return home, the kittens were bathed, bedding washed, and the kennel carrier was disassembled for a full sanitizing and cleansing.

now the good news... appetites are coming back, their energy level is up and they are both doing better.

    Thanks for asking!

My wife is stoic and resilient. Most of all she is a tremendous animal lover and a true cat whisperer. She has amazing patience, kindness and ability to read and understand critters. She is a role model for animal rights and I admire her greatly.

With that being said, she did the wash, I cleaned the kennel, and as this is a Toyota forum I cleaned our FJ Cruiser of the tiny pooplettes that managed to escape the kennel carrier from said explosion.

Ginger update: We took Ginger to the vet for a follow-up check on Friday, and the news was mostly good. She has been fighting a urinary tract infection that the steroid was possibly making harder to treat, but she's all clear now. She's going to get another antibiotic injection on Thursday to provide a bit more coverage, but otherwise all those meds are done. Her breathing situation has also vastly improved. No fluid has returned to her chest and her right lung is now fully inflated. The tumor has responded dramatically to the steroids by shrinking to nearly a third of its original size. This is good news in the short term as Ginger's symptoms have receded, but it is also a strong indicator that it's lymphoma. We were already operating on that assumption anyway, so it's not a setback. Now that she's stable we have cut her steroids back to once-a-day dosing to avoid additional side effects, and will take her back in 2-3 weeks to see if the tumor increases in response. So she only has to get one drug once a day at the moment, and that makes us all very happy. One additional positive is that the steroids brought her appetite back, and she's gained 10 ounces over the past month. She looks good (see picture) and there is no indication that she's in any discomfort. She is loving all this hot weather on the patio, and continues to be very affectionate.
