Honestly I think that person is pretty low life. In my years the old axiom that says "What goes around comes around" is pretty correct. Usually these persons get caught in the lie and pay the price. As I grow older I tend not to let this type of action upset me because it is just not worth the aggravation.

Interesting you'd ask that. To be honest, it makes me so tight you couldn't pull a needle out of my ass with a tractor!

We actually had a guy who won the U.S. Senate seat from CT boggle that up. He had been a Marine Corps Reserve Officer and spent most active duty in Washington D.C., but in some of his speeches, in front of Vets no less, he said things like, "When I was in Viet Nam" or "When we came back from Viet Nam...." His opponent, the American Legion, and the VFW called him out, but the turd still won the election! Honesty and integrity don't seem to mean much in this state and our society as a whole.

    Sorry...was that a rant?

    my thoughts exactly

The reason I asked is because I work with a guy who has a neverending series of stories to share about his time in the Army. Now, I have no doubt that he was enlisted at some point but my coworkers (some vets as well) and I have caught him a few times mixing things up, changing details when retelling a particular story, confusing timelines, etc. He also can't read rank - now wouldn't you have gotten in trouble if you failed to recognize someone of a higher rank?

Lots of things seem fishy to me and the more stories he tells, the less I believe.

Most people who've served develop what we referred to in the Navy as "Sea Stories". Some are real experiences....some are variations of real experiences (embellished), and some are borrowed or made up stories. I could come up with some real good ones, some from each of the above categories....but I've never lied about what I did, saw, and felt. The individual you are speaking of may be just insecure, likes attention, and is a blow hard! But....I can't be sure....:notsure:

There was guy here locally last year who went so far as to wear a Marine Corps Saregeant Major uniform and lots of medals. He hung out at the VFW other places. Total fabrication. The guy never served.
They prosecuted him for impersonating a military person.
They had to keep him under guard so real vets wouldn't "have a talk" with him.

Really? What an idiot! Sheesh! Must have spent quite a bit of money on the uniform....just impersonate a military member?

It is rather sad that a person need to lie about what they did in the service.

When you are in the military just be observant and look around. The stories will just jump out at you and there is no need to fabricate anything.

I call everyone Sparky, but thats not new to me, and its not always directed to the newbies.

BAHAHAHAHHAHAHA, I have a friend who walked up to a couple of troops in iraq and told them not to lie cause he was CID and he was watching them. They were digging themselves a hole after that trying to make their way out of it. it was rather amusing.

But i do hate it, everyone seems to want to 1-up each other in the military.. "i was blown up by an IED..." "OH YEAH! I WAS BLOWN UP BY 7!!!"

I hear it all to often, it is really annoying. But I'm probably more used to it than the civilians and even worse, the media...

^^that's another story all together...if you were in the military at one point, its one thing to exaggerate (i suppose you've earner that right) but when you never served, there's no excuse.

I can't remember the specifics but earlier this year there was a guy who claimed to be a wounded vet who served in A-stan, he took advantage of a few non-profits/volunteer organizations for donations, etc...makes me sick. These places run on the goodwill of strangers and he puts a black could over everything because he was greedy and stupid. I can't imagine how many people turned away from these groups and others because of this guy. I belong to a group, Soldiers' Angels (yes, I'm an Angel...hold your laughter please ), who help deployed and injured guys and gals. I can't imagine how many people have decided not to help out because of people like him.

Unfortunately, there are far too many low lifes in the world today. Not much we can do except prosecute those who do these things.

+1 Rep for being an Angel ! That's awesome Lisa ! Thank You !

That is really sad to hear....but with the "entitled" society we have today, I guess it is probably not as uncommon as we might think.

Thank you for your volunteer work and your assistance to those men and women who deserve it. This country needs more people like you.:)
