@BartMaster1234 @Blue92 I wish all my panels were this simple lol

Actual no i don't, I'd get bored too fast

It's a 'cash sale' custom panel with the VFD being used to control an exhaust fan20200727_153318.jpg

Because an on and off switch is too complicated, surely.

Why does it need all that?

The biggest reason is for cost savings, an across the line starter is perfectly acceptable electrically but then the fan is on high output ALL the time. Plus you would need to add mechanical dampners to the system to control the air flow when you didn't want max volume.

A VFD is easier on both sides because you can electrically control the speed of the fan thereby using less engery and requires no dampening of the system when you only want a little air movement

I love it! The way a VFD can take AC sine wave and chop it up into little bits of DC then convert it back to AC for the motor still puts a smile on my face :D

This is what they started incorporating into home refrigerators.
Dude I'm still shocked by how many blown appliance control boards I've replaced.
I want to know how the hell far less boards fail on automobiles??? With appliances you'd be surprised that it's pretty darn common

I think that's more a matter of cost cutting. They don't intend an appliance to put up with road vibrations or dirty wet environments so they cheap on the electronics cause 'they passed lab procedures' where a vehicle requires more robust shit to last the 10years they expect it to.

    I loathe modern appliances

Yeah I had the thought that the boards in homes also start out with the higher voltage 120VAC as well. Maybe the higher voltage going into them causes them to be more susceptible to failure too.
You know what, yeah, a cars voltage supply is pretty darn consistent at 12V. Maybe the 120V and then at times I know a power surge to a home while that appliance is running(energized and running) affects that too
