anyone remember the 1st gen truck that was built as a race truck with a 4.0 swap? it was red I think, had a decent thread on the swap.

Not planning on doing that myself but a friend is curious.

That’s what RCV’s are for. They don’t limit travel and really shouldn’t break.

Either way I guess this was a warm up trip for ya. Full send next time

Yeah we were still kind of getting our feet wet. At least for me that was the first time I've been out on the dunes. Next time for sure.

The dunes definitely take a different kind of mindset and driving style. That said they are super fun.

Not exactly news but the more I hear about this Simmons Built LT system, the more it persuades me away from links!

My thoughts are if I was going through the bed anyway, might as well link.
But ~19” travel with the option of air shocks, all under the bed might convince me.

I think LSK is coming out with a 2nd / 3rd gen cantilever Kit if I’m not mistaken plus there’s the RJ Fab one too.

Hey fellas how goes it? Been a while lol, I lurk from time to time but it makes me sad :( the new build should be done end of summer and if not I’ll be pulling from shop and having it completed by another shop or slowly in garage by myself and friends. Figured I’d start snooping around again and see what’s cracking...

I have heard a few guys say that cantilever rear setups are really hard to tune the suspension, rebound is a pain in da ass. :notsure:

you can go down the long travel rabbit hole if you want to but I will say when my old truck had burg ucas w/icon ext travel co’s upfront and deaver replacement pack with icon shocks, basically a quality mid travel setup, it was so much and versatile! Thing handled pretty good in the faster stuff and a blast on trails.

That said full LT is amazing! Maintenance/repairs and upgrading weak links can be a pain in the ass mentally and financially!

So I could get away with reusing my stock lower control arms?

^^^ This. I too have talked to a few Shock tuners about cantilever kits and the general consensus is that tuning is extremely difficult. That said, they do work well so if you’re not looking for 100% perfection and don’t want to go through the bed then they are a great option.

As far as getting 19” of travel, personally I think that video is stretching the truth. As I’ve mentioned before, leafs can get that much travel, but at droop they will start to separate, or you need to notch the frame and let the axle gain uptravel which they didn’t do in the video. My guess is realistically it will get 16-17” of useable travel like the other sua kits out there.

side note, that shackle hanger looks like one of the weakest ones I’ve seen. I’m only being critical about that because I’ve bent mine several times in the rocks.

If you’re looking to just go fast through mild to maybe medium stuff and do some minor jumping I would say you can totally rock stock lower with high end coil over and UCA. If you plan on really hauling ass through whoops and jumping often, I would read the LT thread linked in few post above and make sure you’re ready for that kinda build. Many people think if they install Long travel kit, fenders, bumps and spring under they are good to go. Yes it will handle a lot more but you find all the weak links real fast!

That’s what he’s saying. And as someone whose been through every iteration and level of suspension mods along the way, I fully believe in a quality mid travel setup unless you really want to blast whoops and jump.

if you want to keep maintenance down, dirt king makes a great ball joint upper control arm. Pair that with ADS, king, or fox extended travel shocks up front and ditch your sway bar. Throw similar shocks out back and either an add a leaf or deaver leaf pack and call it a day. You’ll be around $4k and it’ll ride great. And if that’s not good enough than next in my opinion is full LT and another $10-15k

long story short I wanted a full bed, Kevin at Dialed Shock Prep said he could dial (no pun intended) them in, my solution was cantilever. I got a sweet option to mess with space under the bed that wouldn't normally get used - for me as long as it works better than a built SOA I'm fine.
