QI Pad Lifting/Bubbling Up

This just happened to mine. I used clear silicone with a piece of plexiglass that I cut to the shape of that area and used a small weight to keep it held down to dry and it fixed the bubble. Then I put the rubber trim pieces you can order for all the cup holders over it and it still charges and I don’t have to look at a bubble.

 

Did you take it out of the center console to do this?

As mentioned not normal. I never use mine, wifey deos on road trips, but I have a tape measure there most everyday.

 

Mine just bubbled up as well, I wonder if it will be covered under warranty since I purchased the extended warranty, I just feel its gonna be a fight to try and replace the part.

 

2018 Tacoma, just noticed it at 30k oil change. Had them look at it and they denied to file it under warranty because they said it looked like I spilled something in that area.

(1) I keep my truck immaculate and have never spilled any significant amount of anything in it. They said there was debris (dog hair) and sticky substance from a spill (when it’s from the rubber mat that I put on top to prevent things from sitting directly on it).

They denied my warranty and when I filed a claim with Toyota Customer Service, they just called the dealer and also denied my claim.

By their logic, anything (condensation, small drips, etc) from the cup holder area... RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE CHARGER, would void the warranty. Very upset that Toyota has been so quick to dismiss an apparent issue.

The “sticky” residue is in the pattern of the silicon mat that I keep on there to cover it

 

Not missing the wireless pad on my SR5. I just bought the Samsung Quickcharge USB-C for the power adapter and use that. Way faster charging than wireless anyways.

 

You can likely appeal the denial by Customer Care with information about the silicone mat. I use a similar one, but haven't had the sticky side do that to my pad. This issue is rather well documented via the # of claims, but no official TSB.

 

I am having the same issue with my 2018 tacoma. After reading this thread though, it seems to me that most people having the issue have a mat or object sitting on top of it (which I have a mat on mine as well). Has anyone had any luck pursuing the manufacturer of the mats? Dealership denied my claim also, so this is the only thing I can think of. Any thoughts?

 

I would take it to another dealer. It's covered under warranty, and many of us have had our replaced under warranty. Didn't have a pad or anything when it happened, but after I had it replaced, I quit using it and put a little mat in there then.

 

My 2019 has 48k on it (commuting) and the same stupid issue with the QI Pad bubbling. I’m really losing faith in Toyota.

 

Should be interesting in another 5 years if a Gen 3 gets to a million miles if the Qi pad is still working.....i doubt it.

 

I’ll say mine is working, but bubbled. It’s one of those things I thought I wanted, but turned out to be useless.

 

I was bummed it wasnt available on the SR5....now I know it sounded better in the brochure than real life. Not missing it now.

 

Mine is just an iPhone warmer, does not even charge.

 

I just noticed mine is bubbled up. I'll be going in for my 15K service next week and point it out to them.

 

let us know, their had to be a recall coming for this. A lot of old and brand new Tacomas are having this issue.

 

2019 at 14k with the same issue. Looks like these charging pads are low quality. I don't use it and I wonder if they can switch it over to the non-wireless pad version of the center console. I will ask.
