Can I change my own oil on an 09 with an extended warranty

Can I change my own oil on my 2009 Tacoma with the extended warranty?

I have read the warranty manual and am confused if I can change the oil and filter on my truck. I have always changed my own oil and prefer this.

But, after reading the warranty it seems you can only change your own oil in an emergency as you need to have proof that you actually changed the oil. I feel like I cant trust a regular jiffy lube to do a good job. I have had no bad experiences. And it seems to simple of a job to pay my regular mechanic his rate, plus he is always swamped and has plenty of work.

Anyone have any good advice? I have the 8yr/120,000 mile warranty (I think it is starting to backfire

 

so just keep receipts for oil and filter??!!

 

^Also what I do. Of course, I've never in my 39 years had a problem that resulted from handling it this way but YMMV.

 

I keep all my receipts.

thanks everyone! looks like i can change my oil again! i figured the computer in the truck prob keeps track as well.
now who here can tell me how to reset the maint. light. or how i get my seat belt buzzer to stay off. did toyota think we would never drop someone off and not turn off my truck. cant stand how the passenger seat belt alarm goes off when someone get outta the truck

 

I go to Toyotaownersonline.com and update the truck's service records.

*Note: I should mention that I /also/ keep the receipts and dates of service, and since I am particularly anal about my vehicles I also keep the oil filters bagged and tagged.

I feel the same way about this.... My wife's cousin worked for Jiffy Lube for several years.. Thanksgiving a couple years ago, he told us that occasionally, they wouldn't actually change the oil in customers cars. It really pissed me off. I was very vocal about dis-agreeing to his "bragging" about this. It made for a very awkward day.

Anyway, I really hope this was isolated and doesn't happen very often. Ever since then, I am paranoid about having someone else change my oil...
