I purchased a new Sony radio and replaced the old speakers with new 6x9" JL Audio C1-690 speakers from Crutchfield for my 2010 Taco (advertised that it fits my 2010) and they interfere with the window. The window does go all the way down, however it hits the magnet on the speaker (both doors) and makes a clunk sound.

When you compare the old VS new speakers you can see the new ones are taller than the old ones by about 1". Has anyone else run into this issue?

Thanks in advance for any advise.

There are speaker ring adapters available that might help you

Not sure how much space you have kn the front but you could always buy or make a spacer. They are fairly inexpensive if you google "6x9 spacer"

Thanks Sandman614 and Fire Chicken for your advise .. I will look into that and also call Crutchfield to see if they can help me. I will post a follow-up!

    Thanks again!

In older Toyotas "back in the day" it was pretty common for stereo installers to put a spacer between the window track and the door at the front window tracks mounting bolt. It didn't affect the windows operation at all until the thickness of the spacer got too thick, about 3/4". However I don't know if our 2nd gen trucks front window track is bolted in or spot welded in. Since your windows still go all of the way down you're probably only going to have to space the front window track 1/8"-1/4" and it won't be noticeable at all.

DG92071, Fire Chicken and Sandman614 ... Crutchfield helped me solve this issue. I mounted the speaker on the opposite side of the bracket. They don't show the adapter bracket and how the speaker is placed in the bracket in the instructions they give you. They just show the speaker being mounted against a plain board. The speaker now clears the door glass!! Thanks for your advise however!

So for those who might have the same problem I did .. for future reference, here is how they are placed in the bracket:

I thought the first pic the speaker seemed to be in there rather deep, glad you got it figured out.

Was just going to say that as well. Remember too, when you install the speaker make sure the side with the wire clips is away from the metal of the window frame. The person who did my install forgot that on the passenger side.

You could mount the speaker again, roll down the window to the top of the magnet, and take a picture of the inside of the door, from the removable metal plate on the door. And you'll know how much additional mounting depth you need. you might be able to make it work without a spacer, if you just add more sound deadening around the mounting surface (since you said the window CAN go all the way down) it probably only needs a hair.
