Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S

I went off roading with my little truck today. needles to say the stock Dunlop Grandcraps took a huge beating. One of the rear tire got shredded and there are chunks of it missing, it is bad and at this point unsafe. My spare is already on my other rear tire, because I got nail in the tire on the edge of sidewall so no one will repair it

Point is I need new tires. I refuse to buy the Dunlop Grandcrap tires, I want to go off roading more often and these tiny tires are not up to that task.

My Taco is lifted with Fat Bob's Garage 5lug lift kit. I could go as big as 31x10.5x15, however that would require getting wider rims and that is not in the budget right now, so the biggest I can go on the stock wheels is 30x9.5x15.

Also I can't buy the tires with cash, so my only option is to go to discount tire and get their credit card. They offer 0% APR for few months, which is great and I should have these tires paid off in a few months...

Now Discount has very shitty selection of tires in 30x9.5x15 size. The only tire I somewhat like is the Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S. Now I want a tire which will do good off road as well as perform good on road, from what I read, this tire should do the job. I want these tires to last a while, hopefully few years. I work from home so, I only do 6-8k miles a year. i would like these tires to last 30k or so miles.

I would like your input, especially from those who have had experience with these tires.

 

those will last longer than 30k miles if its in your price range and if they make them in that size i would look at hankook dynapro atm or something similar

 

My buddy has Hankook Dynapro's on his 4wd Tundra, great looking tire. Discount doesn't carry them Unfortunately, I need to buy these on credit, so I am limited to what Discount offers...

There is not huge selection in 30x9.5x15 size. The closest that comes to is 235/75/15 which is quite smaller. If I am spending all this money, I want to go with the biggest size, I can mount on these tine stock rims, so I am satisfied for few years...LOL

 

you sure you cant fit a 10.5 on stock rims? i assume you have steelies correct?

 

I am just going from what I read/heard... I have the base 5lug Taco with the 15x6 steelies...

 

yes, they will fit on 6" rim, but you're in esscence having 4.5" of tire crowning on a skinny rim. It's not ideal, but it will work. You can also look into the BFG A/T's. The AT-S has a 40,000 mile warranty, so you're good there. I think you'd be fine going on the 6" rim for the time being, and then use the DTC card when you're ready to purchase rims.

 

31/10.5 will fit, but like above said, it's not ideal. There isn't enough backspacing, so they will rub in turns. I see you have a lift so they won't rub up and down, just when turning. As much as I would love 31's on my 5-lug, I won't do it unless I can get wider wheels to go with it. I don't want to risk losing the bead, and don't want the rubbing.

But back to the original question on the Geolander AT/S tires. They are actually pretty nice. I had a set on my work truck that went off road several times a day with a heavy water treatment boat into lakes and ponds without boat ramps. So I was depending on them to pull me and the boat out on dirt/grass and of course on an incline and these tires did it. We chose them because they were pretty aggressive and would hold up to lots of miles because we put well over 30,000 on them a year...sadly we had to give up these brand new tires when I rolled this particular truck, insurance wouldn't let us take anything.

I can say I would recommend these to anyone for a good all terrain that also has good road manners.
