XT would be great, SLK if that's what you can afford. Strongly recommend 4-pots for you on that bike. @backcountryj didn't you have some XT brakes or did you unload those?

From what I have read, these Guide R's are just weak 4 pots haha. Brake upgrades were recommended on the Trance's I was looking at too, so it has been on my to-do list.

I didn't like the grips so I am swapping those as well - anyone have a preferred style?

    They gone.

I’m partial to Ergon. Grips can be pretty personal though, especially if you go gloveless.

I use gloves just out of learning experiences. Last major crash was years ago (didn’t ride for awhile in college due to $), but I absolutely tore my palms up

Probably a dumb question, but I’m assuming the shorter side of the grip goes forward like in this pic?

That's the top you are looking at, but as Scotty said, it'll be clear when you get them.

I’ve never had tapered grips so would rather not be the village idiot on the trail with them backwards

    Yes, like airplane wings.
I think thats the same model I'm currently running. Mine are more of a translucent green, which is a useless data point.
Its possible I'm misremembering, but I don't think front is indicated. It says 'up' on the lock on.
