I paid off my truck today. I figured with that $11k that I owed, I could have added about $36/month to my dividend income, or I could free up $416/month by getting rid of the truck payment. The truck only has 86k miles on it so I am hoping to go a long time without a vehicle payment!

I know the math doesn't always add up, but being debt free is psychologically worth more to me than it is on paper.

The long-term math doesn't, you're right, but freeing up monthly cash flow is definitely worth it. Especially when the market seems a little expensive. I might have invested that if we were at March 2020 prices.

True, your actions will probably cause that big dip I’ve been waiting for. I’ll be happy to thank you for reopening the clearance sale if that’s the case

I feel ya! We have AC, working form home waiting for my 'rona test results. But sat outside for a lot of yesterday, fortunately I can work from outside when I'm at home :D I love this heat though. Looking to make the big move to Texas, bring on the heat, I HATE THE COLD.

I look at it another way too - 36/month, but not just for the next (2?) years. Forever. "Forever". So, yeah it's nice to pay it off, and it's 416/mo now, but you'd get that in 2 years (416/mo) plus have 36/mo, plus have the 36/mo in that two year window. But that goes into.....

Human factor. If the math is close/reasonable enough, there's a human factor to not having debts -- especially right about now when stuff's going haywire.

I have doubled my losses with NRGU, that count? I have a feeling it will recover and I am still thinking of sticking to my plan - principal out at 10, profits ride, but it might just take a few more months than I originally thought :(

Today is a buying opportunity on MMM. Grab that 3.6% yield on a dividend that has been increasing for 61 consecutive years and growing at a CAGR of 11% for the last 5 years!

Shhhh, I’ve been watching it. Seeing how close to that 151 level it was at a few weeks ago I can get it again

I have been accumulating it for about 2 years now, down 16% overall (not counting dividends paid, so maybe down 10% or so). I still consider it a great investment, although I could have probably timed those buys a little better.

just averaged down NRGU to 4.41 so, that's nice? o_O

T, SPHD. T might be a short term hold for now, SPHD is beginning my venture toward @Boyk1182 status

I’m trying to decide if I add a little of either CVX or XOM if they do a decent Post earnings dip, I probably won’t. And wishing I had grabbed up more IRM at the end of June. Other than that, I’m kind of sitting on my hands.

I mean, the smart thing to do was probably wait until after earnings.

speaking of which, SMRT might not be a terrible buy :rofl:

I'll probably sit on the sidelines and let these ride for a while. I might set a limit sell on T and see what happens with them.

I dabbled in SMRT a while back. Maybe now it won't be full of speculators. But I don't really think I've seen an improvement in their store traffic, no idea about ecommerce.

T is a great hold. It’s only a couple dollars above where it bottomed out in March, and you’ll get $2/share in annual dividends. If you have any money allocated for longer term, I wouldn’t worry about selling.
